I'm driving a giant Hyundai Tuscon this weekend. It has a huge diesel, and even a double exaust system. I'll stand behind it for a while and inhale the clensing fumes :D

What a load of bollocks. Didn't hear much about global warming when the good ol' USSR was in existence. Keep the people frightened, thats what its all about.

Yeah, it was all about Mutually Assured Destruction, The Day After and Nuclear Winter, what a complete and utter load of bollocks that was.

An before all that it was Global Cooling !

Its strange, but if global warming is true then global cooling is a very real threat.
If sea temperatures rise the gulf stream will be disrupted plunging us into rather frosty conditions. Apparently.

Xane the capability of the USSR was massively overstated by the USA for many years. It turned out that they weren't particularly interested in world domination, they couldn't even afford to run their own country properly.

I just think its hilarious how a bunch of greenies think that their aims could possibly change anything. The Earth has been busy about its own business for billions of years, getting nice and hot, then a bit cold, and soaking up the odd meteor impact and wiping out a few million species here and there.

Like banning 4x4s is going to have any effect whatsoever. Its all about control, telling people how they must live.

Well they can fuck right off. I'm all for planting trees and not polluting habitats unnecessarily, but if they tax 4x4s at £1000 a year I'll go out and buy one just to piss them off. Stupid fucking socialists.

Kind of half agree with you there Tom. I agree that governments these days (and possibly all governments ever) are increasingly interested in total control through fear and this kind of stuf fplays nicely into their hands.

What I dispute is that its all a load of bollocks - we may well be responsible for some climate change, and we probably are, the fact that governments use it as a topic for control is hardly surprising.

It's a bit hard to know what to think really, you kind of get lulled into a sense that "whatever the beeb writes is true because they are publicly funded" but then that is a complete pile of shit. They may be a bit better than a fair number of other news orgs but by no means politically independent from the policy makers.

I do read stuff like nature, though, and to be brutally honest if you can't trust nature to print what it thinks is true then it's all a lost cause really. I say "what it thinks" because of things like that korean chap and the cloning fiasco - nature published on the basis that it was ok science then later it was found to be bollocks - but at least they openly admit mistakes.

Anyway...I'm a fence man. Hard to make decisions about this kind of thing with so much conflicting press.

Isn't that a very hindsighted view ? The USSR invaded several countries starting with the Baltic States and Poland 1939 and right up to Afghanistan in 1979, and Communist policy was inclined towards world domination either by military or political ends.

My own theory is that many ex-CND joined the environmentalist movement after the USSR collapsed and the nuclear threat dissappeared, which is why the anti-capitalist and anti-nuclear stance is now apparent in green politics.

It can already be shown that private ownership of resources and using nuclear power instead of fossil fuels are far better for the environment, yet these are opposite views to most environmental movements, its just Watermelon Politics.

When will people see through all this government bullshit against 4x4s. The diesel SUVs are more fuel efficient than most sports cars and kill less pedestrians in road accidents put together than the AudiTT.

It may sound quite selfish but I really dont care, until I cant leave my house for fear of melting or freezing on the spot, they can stick there experiments and results up their arses. Chances are if it is going to happen I will be long gone from this place and I wont be able to give a shit anyway. Everyone needs to relax.

And just like alot of other posts on this forum at the moment, it boils down to people thinking the government is trying to scare everyone. oh noes Blair said the sky is going to fall lets all vote for him again.

Tom you sound like that ballbag Clarkson moaning about tax on 4 x 4's.

unlikely

i find the daily mail and every last one of it's readers the most loathesome people on earth. i hope they all die horribly, preferably by contracting bird flu and getting stabbed by immigrants.

but i'd settle for you stepping down from your soapbox you selfrighteous sanctimonious wanker

Actually, Tom is voicing the complete opposite opinion to the Daily Mail, if you took your head out of your arse for long enough you'd realise. Until then try hushing Tourette's boy.

How nice of you to point out that I have my own opinions mank, and that they differ from your own which are very likely left-wing in origin.

If I want to go on about what a load of crap this environmental "We're all doomed" line of political correctness is, then I think its rather telling that the only response you can come up with is 'sanctimonious wanker'. I find the same arguments and similar reasoning when I object on other forums to the idiotic acceptance of "4x4 = bad!!! Trees = fluffy!! USA = evil!!".

I suggest you do a bit of investigating and form your own opinions mank, instead of settling for the claptrap spouted by our own government and its league of arse kissing useless twats who otherwise wouldn't find employment in the private sector. That way, you might be able to respond with slightly more intelligence.
