You don't really have anyone to blame but yourself if you do however. The simple rule "don't give your passwords to a stranger" seems so simple, but it's one a large percentage of the DAoC population has yet to grasp.

exactly end of the day as i said you takeing a risk by doing that (no this is not pointed at the thread starter) as one my favourite sayings go " if you put yourself into the fireing line prepar to me shot.

eeh.. just becaus you are a smartipant and can remember the password, doesnt that mean others can, all my mates have a notebook with the pass in!
If GOA dont give items back becaus you got your password stored in a private document on your computer i rather feel sorry for them..

You do not get hacked, you share your account or click on some Nakedpicsfromvlad.jpeg.exe or give people remote access to your PC, find it really really hard to believe anyone ever got hacked for DAoC passwords which are worth nothing compared to what you would face if someone logged your actions on their PC.
Real hackers don't hack DAoC accounts, scriptkiddies do and shame anyone with half a functional brain can avoid those.
If you get a Trojan or Keylogger on your PC it's all your own fault really.

I had an keylogger and trojan once (Spy Falcon, god damn it the one that invented this crap is the biggest asshole i have ever encountered) but it didnt log my password to them, imo not everyone got money for a FW protection, so dont blame people that got pass stored on the computer or dont even know that they are keylogged. Feel sorry for this gy, caus i KNOW if it ever happend to you, you would QQ aswell.

Wont happen to me as I don't share my main account, don't accept files from people I don't know even if it's only something as "harmless" as a .txt file and I scan every single file people send me even if it's from people I do know and most important I use my head.
I've had quite some IT education and I know what people can and cannot do and a firewall will not protect you from your own stupidity if you do decide to open a file from someone you don't know.

I've have all my account details stored on my PC for as long as I play DAoC (4-5 years), encrypted the file.
If you think it's so easy to hack people's PC you are welcome to try me but don't cry when you face the consiquences.

Do know if you would randomly "hack" someone you don't know who is on the other side of the line, could be a clueless person but could be a highly educated IT specialist hence why real hackers won't randomly attack anyone without knowing who's on the other line as you could find yourself in a very nasty situation.

Here's the difference tho..
A notebook with the password in means people need to break into your house to get it.
Stored in a file "DAoC password" on your harddrive, easy for any half decent hacker to get a hold of if you don't have a firewall.

You can pick up free firewalls, virus stuff nowadays. Sure it might not be top quality, but it's alot better than nothing. If you can't afford money for a piece of paper and a pen to write your password on instead of storing it on the computer, you also can't afford the £8 a month to play.. the hacker is doing you a favour!

If you make no attempt to protect your passwords then sure you don't deserve to lose your accounts, but you also can't look shocked when you do!
