Modem only servers

Ive been playing some CS recently, but being stuck on modem isnt much fun, when i have played its been on the Jolt HPB servers.

First thing i noticed theres about 6 of them, packed solid every night, second thing is there incredibly laggy, 500 + pings for everyone etc.

Was wondering if BW would be up for setting a couple up, as i can pretty much guarantee you'd fill them every night and make a lot of modemers happy :)

You play Q3 with a modem, yet you can't play CS :rolleyes:

Admittedly the HL netcode isn't upto Q3 standards in terms of feel, but it's not bad, the prediction is very good. I generally dislike anyone who blames their ping for constistant piss poor performance, hence i wouldn't be for LPB servers myself. I'm on a 56k, so my oppinion is relevant, allthough i no longer play CS(not for ages), and i no longer play anything HL based(deleted it a few weeks ago).

I was going to get you to help me with running half-life when I installed FreeBSD too. I had it all planned out too.

Well, it's always nice to have a back-up plan in case things go wrong. Looks like I have to rely on TdC (no offense):D

Heh, relying on TdC works most of the time, but sometimes he lets you down :)

Both of us learned that the Linux console can be scrolled in a thread in OS forum... Can't remember who contributed the information in question.

No i had adsl when i was playing Q3 but i got rid of it was it was shit for gaming. Im now back on modem :)

im on meh reliable trusty 56k and would DEFINATLY play on HPB servers (if i still played CS)

actually HL is one game where 56kers can actually compete with LPB's fairly well.... I have ISDN and cant compete with the high maxpaxers in Q3 ... my config seemed to make me perfect rail fodder :(

Sure LPB'ers have a reaction time advantage in CS but they cant shoot round corners like a 56ker :O


P.S. I occasionally strayed onto the BW/Jolt RA3 map1 server, and recall Raw railing me sensless on numerous occasions :/ expect no mercy if I see you laggin on cs_italy you swine! :p

Me and my clan mates are cs n00bs really after moving from q2,but our best player atm is the guy with the modem....

i'm a 56ker fed up of lag time, this is a very good idea !!!

and if it doses not get rid of lag at least we will all have have it

It wont remove lag, lag is dependent on your individual connection to the server. It will mean that in theory you will only be playing against poeple on an equal connection to yours.

I still don't see what the problem is. It's very easy to avoid situations when a 200ping will put you at a dissadvantage.

lol xs what name do you use on bw / jolt ra3 servers ? i havent pld q3 since i got rid of adsl a month or so ago.

I usualy bounce around jolt hpb servers with my name as "raw" quite recently though i also use "crouching child horney father" as some other muppet is using my real (online - raw) irc / q3 nick in cs.

I must admit after reading this thread and the other linked, i decided to go and try it on a server full of lpbs (i was the only hpb there), on one of the jolt dust servers, i still managed some very respectable scores, including first on ct 29/4 and yes they called me a cheat etc

It is very difficult i noticed when an lpb comes steaming round a corner firing, i just choke something silly / packet loss etc.

I dont doubt that it is reasonably fair in general with regards to lpb/hpb but tbh i would rather get my ass kicked from a guy with a 150 + ping than a 20 pinger because when it gets messy at least we'd both lag rather than just me.

I dont mind playing lpbs but i wouldnt mind having the choice on BW to play modemers only / equal connection etc, im only asking for 1 or 2 servers which you know fine well you would fill, especialy considering the 6 jolt hpb servers are full every night.

So hows about it ? :)
