Ok, so I'm not really using the phone very much at all lately, seeing as I'm home nearly all the time. But I've been with carphone warehouse for a few years and they have a loyalty thingie going on, say I'm a 5 star customer and all that jazz. I was thinking it best to go back to a pay as you go as it's got a bit quiet recently and the phones always been an expense that I never really used to it's full potential. I'm not one of those guys that uses 400 mins and 1000 texts, lately the highest has been 15mins and 10 texts.

So I'm on a £25/month deal and on the phone I've been offered a £4.90/month(275mins/similar amount of texts any time any network)no doubt it's a long contract but if I do end up using it more often it'll save me a lot of money as payg calls/texts are pretty expensive + I keep the loyalty bonus and all that jazz.

I'm stuck! Someone help me!!!!

I just use PAYG because I use less than 5 mins a month calltime and 0 texts.

Only time I use 10-15 mins is when I'm abroad on work.

( Contracts have always seemed like a ripoff though ).

How much do you spend/month ECA?

I don't really know what phone if I'm honest :p I'm not really fussed about what one it'll be as I'm quite happy with the Blackberry Curve. I'm pretty sure I heard 20month contract, long time but £98 in total sounds very nice. He did say that they don't advertise this deal so can't find it anywhere for details :(

I top it up £50 at a time and it generally lasts me a hell of a long time :p I think I only topped it up once last year.

So, unsurprisingly, those who effectively dont use mobile phones dont pay a lot for them! The horror, the market works!

I've got a PAYG with Orange and I pay around £10 a month with there Dolphin Package mainly cause I text more than I call and that does me fine. Companies phone me up and keep trying to put me on Pay Monthly, but I said until they can offer £10 a month with a half decent phone they can forget it.

Aye it's with no phone as it's what they term a payg, although it's a pay monthly contract ;o

It's 24month contract £5/month with vat the first month is 75mins/250txt then they bolt on 200 for the rest of it for free.

Its £5 a month so thats £120 total. 2 Years isn't so long that by the time its finished the market will be completely different. If you don't think your phone habits will change in the next few years then it seems like a good idea.

With pay and go, they tend to make the first few minutes expensive, in my case the first 3 minutes are at 25p a minute. This then drops to a reasonable 3p a minute for the rest of the day. (This is to land lines but it is a similar principle for mobiles) I normally find that if I do use my mobiles its normally heavy use for one or two days and then nothing much for the next month. Pay as you go might not be the most efficient way to pay for calls but you never pay for something you don't use and there is a large market for this so they are not complete rip-offs.

It's a very long time. If his usage needs change then he is tied into that contract, and any changes he needs to make will be governed by carphone warehouse, and he may have to pay fee's to change his contract or pay to get out of it. I can understand 18 month contracts if you are getting a lot of free stuff and are a big phone user, otherwise stick to sim only rolling contracts, payg or 12 months deals.

I'm PAYG (T-Mobile), and I top up rarely, maybe £15 every 2-3 months and it does me fine.

I tend to text more (about 5 a week!) as I rarely make outgoing calls on it.

Got a bit worried today when I saw a text from Carphone, said it would cost me £15 a month. Rung the bloke up that sold me it(he gave me his direct number, what a fella!) and he explained that theres a bug in the system that it doesn't show deductions. I was ready to destroy him with my mohawk or face a great doom aswell :(

I'd be reading the paperwork carefully if I were you. Salesmen have a nasty habit of disappearing once you've signed on that dotted line.
