Hmm, perhaps he should do that with Elite 2 now and fix the bugs :)

Just d/l'ed the Elite 2 stuff but it needs real-mode DOS which is a pain :(

Does First Encounters still have the bug where you can't fit weapons in weapon slots anyone ?

That new eilite version sucks shit. The graphics are EGA like, and it runs like a dog on my office's 1gig PIII.
Elite plus is and always will be for me, the definitive version of Elite.

I loved Elite 2. Great music. Great Solar Systems. Massive Universe. Then after a few days I got totally bogged down with bugs and lobbed the disk out of me bedroom window :/

I hate to admit that I once played Elite.

What I thought - utter drivel.

Good if you have hours and hours of time on yuor hands but its more directed at the people who cant hack the quick reactions required for the REAL games like CS, SOF

Flame on !!!!

Oh MAN! Elite and Frontier were the NADS! Both are now available for download as official shareware from here

Elite 4 has been on it's way for, like 17 years with no new developments.

Although Microsoft is developing Freelancer which sounds like its a similar game but not for release until 2002. Dammit.

Holy shit!

I've spent some time looking around at Freelancer stuff and it's already amassed a huge following over the years of development (despite the delayed release) and looks shit hot!

Those guys at Frontier Developments must be shitting themselves.

If they bother to go into work anymore.

Excuse the pimpage.

Only main bug I remember in Elite II was you couldnt fit a whopping engine in one of the smaller craft (there was room, but it generally fucked up). But I lost a year of my life to Elite II. And I just found the original disk. Yeah baby :)

Be careful, Bodhi. The game looks sooooo dated now. I tried to play it again a while ago. Took me f'king ages to configure my sound card in DOS only to find the graphics were infinitely more blocky and crap than I'm used to these days. Couldn't stick it.

Wise words, m8.

CIV II looks dated, but does that stop me playing it?
NO WAY!
ELITE was the DADDY I had it for the BBC and for the ACORN Archimedes I even had this little mod that gave you fluffy dice on your viewscreen. LOL!
I loved jumping into witchspace - my bro found this cheat: hold down <ctrl> while you press

(for pause) then unpause and hold down <ctrl> and <shift> as you go into hyperspace. It puts you into witch space. Yeah baby! Shoot dem Thargoids and pick up dem Thargons! I also did drug runs in the second galaxy, but I never found a place where you could do firearms. Slaving was quite fun too. I also targeted government freighters (yeah, them Anacondas) and used to go bounty hunting everywhere. My favourite targets were Fer-de-lances, but a nice slap up battle with a couple of Kraits and a Gecko was not too bad.

Boy did I love that game!

CIV II doesn't look anywhere near as dated as Elite and Frontier! Elite was released in '82 and uses EGA line/polygon graphics, Civ II was released in '96 and uses SVGA etc.

Seriously, try playing Frontier again! I bet you can't!

Come on, Freelancer!

I spent an hour or so playing Elite plus yesterday. You can download save games to go right to the missions if you like. It's a bugger to control with the mouse though. Keys are still the best. :)
