Minstrel using salamander advice

Hi folks

I'm looking to use a salamander to solo arti mobs etc, just wondering what the best way of going aobut is.

first off, what level sally should I look for? had a quick test last night and grabbed a level 53 one, seemed to keep him charmed easily enough but would 53 be hard enough to kill much?

obviously I'd be using a 50enh bot and heal proc buff

any advice be good

At rr 3 with plus 11 from gear, u can charm a red con level 56 sally, me and a mate used that for farming ausar warriors - thing is u have to spam charm to do it, but are still "allowed" to do actions with ur mouse, such as running abs.

If u havent tried it before it can be a bit of a challenge, if u get adds, but with practice u should be fine.

The lvl53 sally’s at the shades of mist encounter can let you do most arti mobs. You can get red con sally’s as Bloodcore mentioned, they are on the island next to the malice encounter.

With a lvl53 sally you can do artifacts like shades of mist and croc ring. The only problem with sally’s is they don’t hit particularly hard so it can take a while to get the artifact done. In Aerus you can charm lvl53 centaur impalers, they are nice pets as they hit hard and have ok hitpoints.

When you get used to pet twisting, try some of the red con pets, you can hold up to lvl58 at rr3, taur machiro if your in volcanus, and centaur spearman if your in aerus, these hit hard, so kill arti mobs much quicker, and have enough hitpoints to stay alive with a few heals. You’ll be amazed at how much quicker it is to do shades of mist with a taur machiro than a sally.

I only use a sally now for farming loads of yellow/oj’s mobs, and very low reds (lava bugs) at once, as they have that nice aoe dd proc.

For buffing your pet, you want all bases, str/con and dex/qui, you don’t need spec AF or acuity as that doesn’t do anything for the pet, heal proc is essential too. Also make sure you twist ablative when your farming with your pet, your buffed pet will take 0 damage while the ablative effect is up.

Sallys are fine, but @ rr6+ I would move on to Centuar Warriors and Lookouts for ultimate "pharm phactor"

rr6+ for more reliable charm, and at rr6+ you can charm lvl60 AFAIK

I can hold 58s perfectly as long as I keep spamming. They wont ever break. However, Centaur Lookouts have me for lunch.

lookouts are so l33t, when you pull ..loose the pet so the mob goes for you.. and he just casts it to the floor in seconds, /love the lookout

Aye, I really should get some RR on my minstrel. Right now, the lookouts cast me to the floor in seconds.

Even tho lookouts are far faster farmers than warriors, i use a warrior, ive seen the lookout be interupted when having an ad on him, it just didnt cast spells, just stood there tramping in the ground, with a melee pet, thats no problem obviosly

If your finding charm is breaking a lot and your being slapped by sala, get max + duration items. charm will reapply before it can break. At RR2 a level 53/54 mob is stable. above that I might have the odd hit now and then as I get double resists occasionally.

Guessing you pick up a 56th lvl sally on the island in the middle of typhons? They reliably pop at 56th or have to mess about to get one? (mentas can't fuck about spamming charm - it cancels it, then can't recast on the mob cos it's still a friendly for the duration of the charm pulse - so 56th highest can go with no resists)

Sallys are good and sometimes easiest thing to grab, but they not the be-all and end-all like has already been said - they just have loads of hits, reverse dd proc and have heat resists (when it matters). Styling red con mobs will take less hits and melee down stuff much faster than a sally. Had a 56th centaur loner with a barbed spear the other night, was styling other red cons for 300-400..had some hits going 900+ with crit (wild minion 5 pve mode atm ). Even pulled aggro on SoM off a ML9 chanter pet.

Sure mincers with some rr and spamming charm could get much better stuff.
