Ive found a bug in the wonderful 'minority report'.

About 20 minutes into the film, 'John' loads up those videos of his son, but...

They could have been shadows reflected from another light source outside of the holomatrix.

Its like the lightsabers in Star Wars. How can a light emitting object cast a shadow?

Its not a true hologram, its a one dimensional image projected onto a three dimensional texture, so that "shadow" is infact the break in the original flat image where it is has been shown as a three dimensional one.

I enjoyed the film but didn't think it was a classic by any means. The thing that got me was (achtung *SPOILER ALERT* here folks)...

Tom Cruise is the chief of Pre-Crime unit yup...so...he's then the next murderer and public enemy no1. So how come the Feds don't think "uh...ok lets see...he has security clearance for the entire Pre-Crime Unit, shouldn't we change his access rights and lock him out?". Re: the temple where the pre-cogs are kept, he changes his face and walks right in with the old eyeball.

"John Anderton, access granted." goes the computer.

FFS call me picky but DUH :)

I'm just offering useful advice to these poor people.

Perhaps now they'll learn to care about the more important things in life like music, money, alcohol and women.

I liked the film but it was very formalaic, drivative.

I mean the adverts plastered on the walls etc...seen blade runner?

I know its the same author but all the same nothing original.

I did like the cars though.

Is it not possible for a light emmitting object to cast a shadow of the major lightsource is brighter than that object?

(Assuming that the objects light doesnt illuminate the ground or walls etc?)

It's a hologram being produced by things that haven't been invented and are part of someone's imagination. How does anyone know what it SHOULD look like?

I think the idea was more based in the idea of illustrating a fantasy, simply and in a way the public can understand it, rather than writing an entire thesis on what those little projection thingies actually do.

In simple terms it's not too difficult to figure out that the recording is two dimensional but there's some sort of "advancement" that's able to make certain objects or people stand out from the 2d picture to make the experience of viewing it more "real". I think the point was illustrated pretty damn well.

As for the whole film, it was watchable, not the best, not the worst.

*******SPOILER*******

And yeah it did bug me how they never revoked his security clearance.
