Mike the Headless Chicken's Amazing Story

here's the spoiler, kinda suprised it's real, thought hoax for sure!

Olsen failed to completely decapitate the five-and-a-half month old bird named Mike. The axe missed the jugular vein, leaving one ear and most of the brain stem intact

it was determined that the axe blade had missed the carotid artery and a clot had prevented Mike from bleeding to death. Although most of his head was severed, most of his brain stem and one ear was left on his body. Since basic functions (breathing, heart-rate, etc) as well as most of a chicken's reflex actions are controlled by the brain stem, Mike was able to remain quite healthy.

When his head was cut off enough of the jugular vein and brain stem was intact enabling him to live. He was fed with an eye-dropper.

Was thinking the same thing, this is fucking sick.

Having your head cut off is not something you would want to survive I would imagine! Having this poor bastard live for 2 years without a head isnt something I'd wish on many people tbh.

This was on QI a couple of series back about Mike.

Now me personally, I would have given it the second stroke to have finished him off and put him out of any pain and suffering that it might have been gone through.

However the flip side is that it is kind of amazing that it managed to live for two whole years in that state. Well, okay survive would probably be more accurate. Probably bumped in to a lot of things too.
