I still have it but not as consistent now. Grabbed 30 minutes sleep while my lad watched Ben 10 and that helped a wee bit. The sickness is starting now and Samm is due back in so I have got to bite my tongue (migraines make me vicious).

Some very interesting stuff in this thread though, going to go through it again when I can see/read properly.

Many thanks one and all.

When I was getting migraines which were stress related they found the trigger for mine was the muscles in the back of my neck cramping and pulling the muscles that lie across the scalp (like a fishing net mesh apparently) tight and triggering an attack.
I was recommended magnets to put at each side of where my neck met my shoulders and they worked fantastically. Don't ask me how but it's something to do with the natural magnetics in your body and directing them properly.
I also would put some Deepheat or other type of heat causing property (hot water bottle also works) on my neck too.

I used to have Migravase which disolved in water but I don't think they make them any more and so I have Migraleve on prescription but it's cheaper to just buy the pink tablet Migraleve and then get some Boots own co-codymol as that's all the yellow ones are.

Hmmm magnets, I will mention them as well but I think my doctor may be a bit rubbish.

Still had it at 3.30am but it seems to have gone now although (and I don't know if any of you get this) I can still feel the scar of it and will for the rest of the day.

Going to study this when I wake up a bit more, was right royally drugged up last night.

I was on Imigran for a while - most of my migraines are triggered by lack of sleep.

was changed to Sumatripan which seem to help.

best thing is a dark room and fall asleep

Just to drag this one back up but did you see this in the Independent today Trem?

Migraine thingy

Good news indeed but I wish they would get them out quicker.

I did order some Feverfew and am taking them daily so lets see if that stops the migraines in the meantime.

Thank you for that though Cadiva, its lovely you thought of me when you saw it.

My wife has very, very severe migraines, especially in the summer.
Normally has to take tablets which apparently cost £36 *each* but currently can't take anything stronger than 500mg paracetomol due to the baby :|

She's suffering, I can see how bad it is in her eyes, and wouldn't wish it on anyone.

How awful. Is there a proven adverse effect on the baby? Friend of mine did take unadvisable medication and was so worried about her baby. Her baby was fine.

Your poor, poor wife. I have suffered them in the past, and the thought of having to suffer them with no proper medication!!! Shit. Bless her.

You're probably sensitive to certain foods: it sounds like a lot like my brother has.

When he started sufferring severe migraines, he managed to figure out a few causes:
Dairy (I notice you struggle with cheese already) - although he is fine with goat's milk/cheese etc
Red Wine
...and the big one: Aspartame.

It's the phenylalanine (or whatever) contained within that causes him the problems. Aspartame is used in a LOT of food/drink these days. I'd suggest going without any aspartame for a while and see if that helps.

I take feverfew daily, don't know if it works but daren't stop in case. Imigram made me violently sick so now take Zomig. It's very good but I have to go to sleep for 3 hours! It's quite bizarre. Once managed to stay awake but totally slumped. Migraleve only ok for a headache.

My daughter takes a combination of diclofenac and tramadol, but that only made me sick. Best of luck. If you find anything that works and lets you carry on do let me know.

Not a clue about the baby thing, but the paracetomol she's allowed to take. Just obviously not in any large doses. It's partially effective but partial often isn't even close to denting the tip of a banging 'graine.

Thats so bad because taking paracetomol is quite pointless for migraine, I do feel so sorry for your wife taking paracetomol for a migraine is like putting a plaster on when your head gets cut off.

Never heard of that luv

Will do and did you read that you shouldn't stop taking Feverfew instantly as that can cause uber migraines, if you want to stop taking it you have to reduce the dose slowly.

Went the doctors yesterday for my review and to get more Imigran etc.

Apparently I shouldn't be taking Imigran with the brain pills I'm taking as they could cause my brain to explode or something (I did ask for her explanation in English but got nowhere).

So I am in the same boat as Kryts wife now, I have been prescribed some "strong" Paracetomol, I may as well eat a cheese and chocolate sandwich than take them.

Fucking gutted and I am praying these Feverfew work because I am going to be crippled when I get my next migraine :(

That's awful.Try homeopathic Pulsatilla. And I just read something that said Kali Bich was worth a try, shouldn't react with any thing. Tablets I had years ago were Diconal but not sure if they are prescribed anymore, took away the pain and made me high as a kite! Probably morphine based, trouble is whenever I've had morphine for anything it hasn't had any effect.

Yeah several international medical councils found that Distalgesics when mixed with paracetemol and alchohol could cause a fairly severe case of death, so revoked licenses for them in the late 90's. They were a very effective painkiller tho :)

distalgesics appears to be the same word as analgesics which is the name given to the class of drugs that remove pain.

Woke up with a humdinger of a migraine today, the sickness and drilling pain. Have to say it isn't as extreme as it can be, maybe the feverfew has helped a little.

Either way today is a write off as far as me moving much is concerned.

Feel wretched.

This is a bit off the wall but do you have low energy bulbs at home?

Funny you should mention that. I don't but my mate has just spent over £100 on some and I was going to get a few. We have uber bright halogen for the main part.

My migraine started in the night when I was asleep so it isn't light, but I do hate sunlight and bright lights.

Probably best avoided if you are subject to migraines though - its something to do with the spectrum of light they produce - no point having another trigger around...

I was getting really bad migraines but couldn't take any painkillers due to not being allowed to for work. Would have to ride out 2 days of nausia, not being able to look at lights, splitting headache etc. Thankfully in those 2 days it cae in waves, some hours worse than others.

Ayway, cut down on my coffee and I cant rememebr the last migraine I had. \o/

Felt like it was attributed to getting dehydrated too. Hence the coffee killing.

Funny this thread should resurface just now. I've had a corking headache accompanied with flashing in front of my eyes and some nausea for about 8 days now. I don't generally take painkillers, but I had tried a few as it was really beginning to piss me off, but they didn't really have much effect. Last night I didn't sleep a lot because of the pain, and after pestering from my other half I went to the docs this morning. Diagnosis was migraine, and she's trying me on Migraleve first with instructions to come back on Monday if there is no improvement.

I would like nothing better than to be lying at home in a darkened room now doing nothing quietly. Unfortunately I run a boatyard, it's summer with the schools breaking up and lovely weather, so time off is not an option. I have noticed however that my conversational skills are deserting me, doing demos on our boats I keep losing my train of thought and sentences just seem to ramble off into rubbish.

I'm hoping the migraleve will work, otherwise it does seem there's a whole battery of other drugs to try, so if nothing else this'll be a whole new narcotic experience for me :)

Same here, I slur my words and can't really talk about anything and my temper is tenfold when I have a migraine. I pity the fool that talks to me

8 days is a bit harsh Gumbo and in all honesty if the Migraleve haven't worked yet they aren't going to, should ease your migraine within an hour or so.

Go and buy yourself some Syndol and take 2 before you go bed tonight and let us know if they helped, first time I took them they were heaven. You can only buy them from chemists though. Obviously only take those and take them with nothing else apart from Ibuprofen.

The pills seem to be working pretty well so far, the constant pain has gone now, but when I raise my head or walk out into the light there is still a bit of a wave of it. That's with the pink pills taken, but not the yellow yet. So that's something. I'm hoping that after a dose or two of the yellow it will knock it on the head, so to speak, but we'll see.

The speaking thing is actually quite comical, as I'm normally very fluent, but I'm just mashing language up at the moment.
