I've been thinking of starting a char on Mid/Excal, mostly for pve use. I'd like a fairly group friendly character but one that wouldn't suffer by having to solo.
Warrior if you prefere melee, spec 50 shield 44 weapon rest parry if its pure pve, lost of blocks/parries is pretty nice
SM if you like casters, soloed a great deal of the way with my sm (all specs work, depends on playing style )
imho anyway, theres lots of different opinions about this, personally i like my thane a lot in pve. Hes able to kill most mobs, even w/o a bb. Tho, you need some decent equipment for him/her to be top notch
Don't go melee unless you want to be hideously bored out of your skull in New Frontiers. Must admit though I love my little 46 warrior, never been into melee classes but he's surprisingly good fun PVE
Thane is nice in pve, can also solo pretty well with selfbuffs, and the magic line has been imporved to the point where you can usually nuke an orange to 50-75% health before it reaches you if you want.
It will also rock in NF with its combination of shield ( > archers), strong ae dd (best delve in midgard), and melee capacity for storming breaches etc. I expect it will be one of the funnier classes for the expansion. It will also have access to some nice ra's.
I've got a part-time alt on Mid (Level 33), and I have to say the Thane is a nice class. Guess they only get 'flak' for rvr. But in Pve they are a decent class.
Pure tanks will be boring to play in NF indeed, so a thane/skald for tanks, or any caster, but you might wanna consider a support char too, i.e. a shaman or a healer, they are always needed, and you make a big difference on your groups performance/fun factor
Only disadvantage, hard to solo with a support class, with the following exceptions:
So which spec/class is used as the bb for mid? I don't normally use a bb (despite having a 50 cleric) but I may consider levelling 2 together then respeccing the support to play for real.
