Having problems trying to get, of all things, a fucking microphone to work

I don't even know, due to the lack of any labelling on my card (Other than some shit colour stuff - It's an Sb live) which input it's supposed to go in, and despite trying all of them, I don't get anything :\

I have a mic too, but I wanna use in games like RTCW, but Roger Wilco sucks, you should be able to just plug and play

I hope microphones or headsets start taking off soon, they really improve the game feel, but notmany games have it built in easy to use, I believe OpFlashpoint does

Have you tried clicking on 'boost' under the microphone slider in volume properties/mixer, with my mic you cant hear it unless its boosted.
