Do you have a minidisc or any recording medium with a mic socket? Camcorder's have them too (crappy powered sockets). Try it in any of those, or on another computer.

Also, try tapping the plug on the socket, and inserting it slightly. You should hear some 'pops', if you can't then it's a software/internal hardware problem.

Another thing you can do (this will sound weird) is plug a small speaker into the mic socket. It will function as a very poor microphone, and will allow you to test the socket.

Yeah, what im gonna do is take my Headset into College tpomorrow, to see whether it works on one of them machines, because i dont have the time to test it on my other comp now.. (knackered lol)

then i will know whether its this comp or the headset, if it DOES work on the other comp, i will come back tomorrow and check what the other 2 you said where

Hehe, I don't use a headset. I just turn up my rather nice speakers rather loud. The neighbours must think I'm having some sort of war going on in my house ;)

Receipt i have, but, unfortunatly, i binned the Box... would you think they would refuse me if i wanted a refund/exchange?

Hmmm depends on what the box was like - if it was one of those 'rip it to bits to get it open' type boxes, and also how much the mic cost. If we're talking big bucks, I'd make some serious noise and demand a replacement (ask for you money first, and then compromise and take the replacement)

:whip:

Went back to PC World today, took my Headset in a Bag with Receipt, walked over to Information, told the guy, handed over receipt and picked out a new Headset... totally painless.. PC WORLD RULE :D

Except for the fact that you probably paid over the odds for it anyway! PC World's prices are outrageous when you consider their buying power.

I usually have a good laugh asking questions about their pc's, pretending i know nothing about them and have too much money to spend.

It's great for passing away those boring Sundays!

Can anyone recommend an uber-l33t (expense don't matter) headset, with perfect sound quality and crystal clear speaking ability ??

Go to beyerdynamic's website, at http://www.beyerdynamic.com they have a few headsets that might be of interest to you. I have 2 sets of beyer's in my soundkit, they sound very nice.
