dont know if theres already been a thread on this...

just saw this movie and this is what i thought:

how poor is this movie!?!? the attempt at using collateral-style camera work failed miserably, the plot was pretty bland and far too predictable, hell the trailer was better than the damn movie!! also the girls in the film were getting irritating... bah what a waste of £5

films these days have gone down hill... wheres the good old action films with arnie in? :p They all have to have some kind of deeper meaning- which is all well and good but sometimes you want a film where you dont have to think and are just wowed by the explosions.

There's 1 man for this request...Jerry "wtf is just spent 10 million on an explosion" Bruckheimer.

And whats with all the "cover versions", both films and "musicians" (loose term) cant seem to turn out something original these days, recently (just from memory) weve had:

War of the Worlds (not bad) - remade sooo many times
Bewitched - 60s US sitcom, shoulda been left there
Superman - hope this one dont fall off his horse
39 steps - another one that should be left alone
Around the world in 80 days - yeah, needs kungfu to make it funny now, not
Casino Royale - the original was shit, the new actor is shit, this film will prolly be too
Dukes of Hazzard - tits arse and fast cars, was there a plot somewhere too...
Check this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_film_remakes for a full list.

Anyway, theres nothing new coming out of hollywood, lazy bastards. Even Speilburg has lost the plot.

I can think of only four films where a remake or sequel has been better than the first/original film:

  • Alien-Aliens
  • Terminator-T2
  • Rocky-Rocky II
  • LA Takedown-Heat

If you see -Dukes of Hazzard- and look for a plot, instead of tits arse and muscle cars...you're a bit silly.

If you see -Dukes of Hazzard, starring Sean William Scott, aka Stifler- and look for a plot...you're a bit mental.

If you see -Dukes of Hazzard, starring Sean William Scott and Johnny Knoxville- and look for a plot...you ARE mental.

I actually thought Predator 2 was at least as good as the first one, although I seem to be pretty much alone in thinking that :D.

Er, there have only been 2 films of it - the 1953 one, which looks dated as fuck now but actually had amazing special effects for its time (think it won some Oscars for it) and the 2005 remake, which I thought completely owned. I loved the way it was all told from the POV of the man on the street - no sub-Independence-Day slow-mo shots of the White House, Statue Of Liberty etc getting blown up (watch the extras on the DVD and they say one of the first things they did was make a list of what they didn't want in the film, and cheesily obvious stuff like that was top of the list), just the gut-wrenching terror of being helpless on the ground in the way of the invasion. I remember a friend of mine complaining that Cruise's character surviving the first Tripod's attack was pure luck, and nothign to do with any skill or special-ness on his part; I think that was the whole point of it, that he was just lucky, which is one reason he's shaking in reaction-fear afterwards when he makes it back to the house. The W.O.T.W. remake is IMO one of the best remakes I've ever seen.

I'm not a big fan of Colin Farrell to be honest, he is pretty crap in anything he has played in so far. SWAT was only made better with Sam' L Jackson. Alexander was awful and as BullsEye... oh my gosh, rubbish.

Thanks for the heads up on this though, thought it was going to be rubbish :(

Seen the trailer to MV a few times.

Didn't impress. With predictable set pieces, standard cops v bad guys storyline, partner punch-ups, obligatory women and fast cars, its been done better before (eg. 48 hours, Lethal Weapon, and even Tango & Cash)

He's hot stuff though! xD

And yeah, Evita, I totally agree on at least Heat. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

The original was a comedy bond film with David Niven, woody allen and a very dodgy storyline

Went to see MV yesterday - was slow-paced, poorly shot, poorly introduced (does anyone know what the first 20 minutes has to do with the rest of the film??), with no character building at all etc etc.

Waste of £6 (Ster Century, Leeds!)

Think of it this way, the only reason the film was following his POV was because he survived all the way through it. They wouldn't show someone who died in the first scene. There will always be lucky ones.
