Dunno.. All the new age kids don't seem to like them. I can understand why some of the older fans don't. But Metallica was a big part of music (Metal) history.. Greenday... Isn't. XD

And even tho i love pre-dookie ( warning is my fav album ), i love the stuff after that aswell. Whatsername on the American idiot album is my favorite song from GD. GD are just influential, not many other musicians like Billie Joe seem to progress to this level... a few others to name... Bono, Bob Geldof etc and why don't you see people flaming them? I mean they are all helping charities like the G8 summit, u2 did a duo with GD about new orleans. I totally disagree GD sold out on their last album, they have no reason to sell out, they were on top of the world with dookie.

1. warning is at least 2 or 3 albums POST dookie, and was way after they lost the plot. terrible record.

Haven't really listened to much Metallica post "black album", was some good stuff on Saint Anger but besides from that they have'nt impressed me since the good ol' metal days, Ride the lighting and Kill 'em all still Rocks

Everyone knows it's a very popular thing to either hate metallica or say "Everything post the black album sucks!".

I really do mean that. Of all of my friends, only me and one other like Metallica and when I was younger (16 or so) I had great fallings out with other metallers purely because I liked metallica and they didn't. Everytime a song came on and I said I wasn't a fan, it didn't matter what it was, they would take the piss out of metallica throughout the entire song to purposefully try and rile me up. Note my favourite bands if asked would be aerosmith and pink floyd and I'm pretty sure they could've taken the piss out of them but they didn't; everytime, they stuck with metallica.

The sheer amount of people who say "Yeah, everything before the black album was good but after sucked" and then asking them to name a song would draw a blank is just ludicrous. I can guarantee there are a vast number of people who do generally beleive this but for every beleiver, there seems to be a fanboi in their wake.

Ooh and I wont be going to the Metallica gig sadly but instead shall be at hyde park caling for Aerosmith on the 24th june, woohoo!

I kinda like Metallica...got my musical start as a drummer in a covers band that did lots of Nirvana and Metallica. Since we're being all FOTM, I'd have to say that I didn't really get much out of their music post Puppets. I don't think they ever really replaced Cliff.

At this point I would have to say that Pantera >>> Metallica any day and in terms of influence (on me anyway) there would be quite a few bands ahead of Metallica (Sabbath/Ozzy, Pantera, Black Label Society, Dream Theater). That said, I still defy anyone to find a better headbanging thrash metal track than Hit The Lights or Leper Messiah.

On the whole Greenday issue, I saw them live at the Dublin Point a few years back and they were really good. Billie Joe is a good musician. Early Offspring stuff still pisses all over 'em though!!! Not quite sure what happened to the Offspring...SMASH was such an awesome album but they went a little odd didn't they? All that Original Prankster and Pretty Fly For A White Guy bollox.

While we're talking about music, everyone who hasn't already should make sure their music collection contains every song by the following bands;

Alter Bridge (Creed with a different lead singer...Mark Tremonti really shines on guitar)
Audioslave (RATM with Chris Cornell on vocals!! Need I say more?)
Marcy Playground (best stoner indie band you've never heard of!)

Guess I should throw in the standard "RIP Dimebag!" at this point...probably the most gifted and influential guitarist in the history of metal music (although I'd have to put Randy Rhoads in the same class).
