Hey all :) - well, I bought AoC! :)

I don't know if anyone here would remember me? But anyway:

I was wondering if there was any 'melee' class that high Combat damage, but probably not as good armour as a Guardian? Like the title says, similar to the DAoC classes of Mercenary/Blademaster/Berseker... I was looking at the Conqueror.

Thanks :)

I hear the barbarian is a pure caster killer, with very high dps. but he is also really squidgy.

The conquerer can duel wield or use 2 handers i believe, but his damage doesn't match the barbarians. He can use heavy armour though.

Herald of Xotli is the highest dps melee toon in the game if you want pure damage, gets a shapeshift also for pbaoe pulsing dmg and increased dps also.

Total glass cannon though

i am finding my barbarian fun. they do big dps on soft targets and can take a couple targets but the longer the battle goes on the more you hurt. stealth up to mob and kill it fast then run off is pretty much the way to go. barbarian is preety much an assassin with a little more defense and a little less dps.

Barbarian is the 'studded' wearing dps toon.

Conqueror dps, while nice, really doesn't match up to a barb with decent gear. They get more in the way of group buffs and better survivability in heavy armour.

Having said that, in a grp once furious insipration starts stacking up (2% melee dmg per stack, max 10 stacks for 20% extra damage) + maxed Lumbering Hulk and frenzy if you can safely get away with it, conq does put out some pretty nice damage.

Herald is a sweet toon, but totally glass cannon like Poon said, wearing cloth as they do. They also get some spells and stuff. But for straight up non-nonsense melee damage I would still say you're describing a barb closest in your original post.

My 24 bear shaman was teaming with a 24 Barb last night and we took it turns to kill mobs to see who was stronger and I was tearing through them far quicker than he was, with less damage taken

Barbarian is a Rogue-archetype, which means they got lesser armour. If you insist on categorizing those classes to DAOC-equivalents, a barbarian is abit like a 'Shadowzerk' (eg. a Shadowblade)

Conquerer doesnt really have a DAOC-equivalent, suppose a Skald-paladin mix comes closest. They can do quite decent damage, can dualwield or use two-handers and they get alot of group-utility, with all kinds of different shouts.

The Soldier-archetype (where conquerer belongs to) can wear heavy armour and have more HP then rogue-archetype. As a result, a Conquerer can stand his ground alot longer against multiple enemies then a rogue does.

Im only levelling slowly my Conquerer (23 at the moment) and eventho I cant kill as fast as a Barbarian can, its not feeling gimped to me. Being able to charge in a pack of 3-4 mobs and 'whirlwind, cleave, sweeping strike' em all down (thats another MMORPG, I know :D) is great fun.

Barb also has:
- more hps than the other 2 rogues
- access to CC in the form of single target knockback+root, single target stun+snare (long duration with feats), PBAoE stun, short to medium ranged stun (throw weapon), and CAoE knockback
- access PASSIVE fear resistance
- access to purge+inmunity followup, for stun, root and snare

Imo, he doesnt rely on stealth to do the job of a dps'er + disabler, and their survaibility is far more than the assasin which in this gam is paper soft (ultimate dps'er tho).

If so, the assasin is more a shadowzerker: doesnt rely on off-stealth moves, but obliterates targets from surprise with fast and high dps, although easily CC'ed.
