Ive recently bought some new memory, Geil value in 1gb size in fact, 2 sticks of 512. Its PC3200.
My system at the moment is
XP3000+
AOpen AK79D 400-max Mobo

Err dont think anything else is relevant :)

Now my existing ram is pc2700 , but Ive bought the new ram in advance of a new mobo/cpu soon to come. When I recieved the new memory last week, it gave loads and loads of errors, which was a pain in the arse, so I sent it back. Overclockers were very good, and I recieved replacements today. However, thet also come up with loads of errors, via mem86 test, and also by the simple fact that games lock up immediately :/
My question is, am I missing something, or have I been sent 2 lots of dodgy ram ? Is there a bios setting i have to change ? I thought there wasnt tbh, but id be happy right now if someone told me there was !

Thanks in advance folks :)

The default memeory timings for my Geil value RAM were wrong. They should work fine at CAs latency 2.5, RAS to CAS 3, RAS precharge 3, cycle time 6. Rather than the 3,4,4,8 it seems to auto to.

Well, first I just fitted one stick of ram, and ran the memtest. No errors. So then I fitted the other stick on its own, and tested that. No errors. The I fitted both together. 154 errors. This made me think the problem was my end rather than the ram itself.
Trem mentioned in IRC resetting the bios, and what I did is ran the defaults on my motherboard, then changed everything back to how it should be. The AOpen board is dead good for that. Now , hey presto , no problems.
I would also add that I can notice sod all difference in performance between a gig of pc2700 ram and a gig of pc3200 in CSS anyway, which is pretty much all I play these days. However, as Ive bought the new ram prior to an upgrade Im not bothered :)
