Just a note in case anyone gets the same problem, my PC sudenly started slowing down, zones took ages to load, the game would stutter for 30secs when large numbers appeared in clip range.
Never had this before so I took my memory out 2x256 ddr 333, and swapped them round in the slots, then the game froze on load and the speakers screeched.
Just put 1 strip back in and it was all OK, not as good obviously with just 256 but a lot better, turned out the other stick was faulty, replaced it and everythings back to normal, strange but the faulty stick seemd to affect all the memory slowing it right down, the boot memory check was always ok.
