At the moment i have Corsair 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory in my Asus P5K motherboard.

That means i have pretty much 2 banks of memory free and i think its time to just do a minor upgrade in terms of getting more memory. One thing i am wondering though is if i should/could buy another pack of the Corsair memory or if i can use a different model/manufacturer?

I might wait until after Christmas for this though, see if the prices drop down on bits!

It shouldn't matter too much but the P5K's, like many P35 motherboards are a little picky with memory. Stick with corsair if you can but OCZ and Geil are both reported to be particularly good with them.

I decided to go for the same memory as i already had to make sure i didnt have any conflicting issues. I ordered some last night and they arrived today.

On the memory stick i noticed they were v6.2, so it seems they came in different versions over the years. That certainly got me a bit nervous! When i opened my box i seen that my memory was listed as being v2.1 sooo...

Anyway, about an hour in i was getting a few random crashes in games, and then about 2 hours later i got my first blue screen - NOOOO.

"An attempt was made to execute non-executable memory"
Stop: 0x000000FC

I checked online and it seems to be something common, im gonna try a memtest later but im not sure what i am going to be expecting.

The way i have it setup on my motherboard is, i have 4 banks of memory (Which according to Asus can take upto 8gb of memory).

DIMM 1[a] - Old memory - v2.1
DIMM 1 - Old memory - v2.1
DIMM 2[a] - New memory - 6.2
DIMM 2 - New memory - 6.2

Whether doing it that way has caused issues i dont know, but it seemed right anyway...

think you need to go pairs in A and B rather than 1 and 2.

Oddly enough in the last week have had som issues on my P5K-E WiFi, it keeps losing the BIOS settings - all the overclocking settings (happens if i'm OC'ing or not), hdd boot orders and AHCI/Raid settings. Right pain in the arse - gonna fire a post on asus forums. Not the bios battery as time/date is retained.
Wonder if it's the power supply...

Swapping the memory into the correct banks seems to have done the job, least upto now i havent had any crashes in the past 2 hours or so.

Awesomeness ;
