I confess I could never understand people running q3 in vertex or whatever either myself, but saying you cant spend forty quid on a mouse is the other end of the scale exor .A wheel is very very useful for all pc games, particularly for q3 and cs, for changing weapons. I want the smoothest bestest thing i can get, its not a lot of money and so i get it. That old cordless mouse of mine has been driving me mad these past couple of days ! Cant wait to get home and try me new optical one, see if i can kill dolly at last !

Heh, I used to run Quake in vertex. My 8meg card couldn't handle anything higher.... :/

You don't need to spend £40 to get a wheel.

Most of these mice with 5 buttons etc are just so chunky and clumsy I don't know how people play games on them.

I want something that's sleek, light and accurate, and doesn't feel like I'm gonna accidentally press a button because it's covered in them...like a bloody minefield!

I used to play with picmip 10 etc when Q3 first came out, but that was mainly cos I could see sweet FA. But OSP & CPMA have promode fullbright skins, so problem sorted :D

Thats very different m8, I just sympathise with that :(
And I do understand about the size of these mice, i been trying a logitec optictal as well recently, but its so big its stupid, i couldnt do it. however when i went back to the cordless ball mouse, i really noticed the difference in accuracy. Hence i have bough the new one, tho its not an explorer becuase a) they are still too big and b) they only had 'em for right hand, and i am left handed in this.
so i got a regular optical intellimouse, much smaller, still got 5 buttons, hopefully still very accurate :)

Accurate enough for me in Q3 as I usually get about a 40-55%+ rail accuracy in clan games.

That pic looks ok to me m8 :) Certainly isnt vertex !
I do think mine looks a little nicer tho, although I may be wrong, at work atm and cant check !

Might well be, especially if you're using FSAA, something I can't be arsed using tbh, cos it makes a negligible difference for a significant framerate hit. I've had that GF3 for about 6 months so far, as it came with the other bits that went into the P4 rig I have atm.

Don't think I'll bother with the GF4 tbh, cos it doesn't look that much better than a GF3 to be worth the upgrade. Think I'll wait for the GF5, which thankfully won't be called the Geforce 5.

Agreed about the gf4 m8. Dont get me wrong it looks great, Ive been playing a bit of q3 single player lately, cos the fools just put a p4 1.7 on my desk at work lol

I use My Intellimouse Explorer with the PS/2 adapter... Works fine.

Got myself one of those huge chunky blue optical things myself. Fits nicely into my hand.

And you know what they say about men with big hands...:D

Fs, I've been lumbered with this beast of a PC on my work desk for the past 5 years - A P2-266/64Mb ram/4mb vid card.

It rox.

As long as I don't try to open more than 3 apps at once...

I use a "Microsoft wheel mouse optical". found my performance in CS rose nearly within an hour.
