Played mtw2 this weekend. Lots of fun, though not vastly different from rome its got enough to keep me happy.

If your comp was good enough to play Rome on decent settings will it be good enough to play Medieval 2 on decent settings? Or is the gfx side very upgraded?

You should be fine as long as you adjust the detail settings, my friends PC is very slow (only 512 ram) , but it managed once we turned some filtering and detail down.

Well after a weekend of playing I love a lot of the game but again like Rome find it way way way too easy. First campaign I played on hard/hard just to see what it was like, won in 101 turns :/. So started a game on very hard/very hard already taken paris and defeated scotland and not very far in at all no doubt will be a cake walk from here on.

Real shame they had the chance to make this the best game ever but once again the AI lets it down. Also the inquisition is just insane they burn anyone and everyone who come anywhere near them.

What do you guys think of it?

they are working on a patch for the AI so its not quite so stupid

on the difficulty, best bet is to wait for something along the lines of Rome Total Realism from the mod community:p

The inqusitors are demon possessed or something! I cant lead an army with any family member or they are immediatley put to the stake :( So all my generals need to stay in the settlement until I managed to get an assasin trained up to maximum level :(

RTW worked fine but the frequency is out of range (due to my cheap wee monitor) so cant fight battles bah :p

played it at home though and yes the inquisitors are mad... they dont seem to bother you if you are high in favour with the pope though :p

total war games dont really have a "story line" tho, they are more sandbox than anything ;)

on a side note... "special" buildings.
ive got the explorers guild, and the merchant guild. and "aquired" a spy school when i took jerusalem. but i cant work out what the requirements are for actually making it. same goes for the others. as the english i had 2 succesful crusades, and the templar+ hospitilar retinue, to no effect, then playing as scotland, on about 10th turn i was just offered the knights templar barracks. if anyone has worked out what triggers these id love to know

yeah theyve put in the assassination, spying, inquisition etc , videos. and as a nice touch, there are a few different ones for each type, one success , one failure, and each pair start the same so you never know till almost the end if it worked or not ;)

I would almost disagree on the story line, MTW2 seems to quite strickly follow the events and general order of the middle ages which are a story in themselves.

As for making buildings like spy school, I think you require a thieves guild to start the chain of buidings to get it. Most of the top stuff can only be built once youve really got on the good side of a guild and been 'awarded' it by them. You cant just build them :)
