I've got mine on order from Play.com as well - and I didnt get mine today either :( But I think their system had a bit of a tantrum this week as I couldnt view my outstanding orders! PC world were doing pre-orders for £20, but they delivered 3-5 days after the release date :eek7:

Really nice game :)
Although that Pope is really annoying when I just ignored him I got like insta war with 3+ factions or something :p
Shame you can't play all factions though (unless I missed something) as playing Russia would be nice.

Assuming it's like previous versions you'll be able to easily mod that - even a technomong like me managed that in RTW :)

As said above, this should be moddable, but also you open up more playable factions the more times you beat the campaign. :)

As for me.. i've looked forward to the game for a year now - and it comes out on the month when i can't even afford to buy food. Will have to wait until next month. :( I played the free demo at least.

I've played the Demo and thought it was pretty good, far better than Warhammer: Mark of Chaos

I might shoot into town tonight and grab the full game, whats it priced at roughly?

play.com's order system must have been screwed up, I checked Tuesday if i had it pre ordered but the screen said no so I went and ordered it from Amazon. Turned out it's all play.com`s fault :p

£34.99 from game init? Worth every penny anyway will be the best game this year assuming they made the AI smarter and a lot harder to beat. Had to mod Rome:TW to make it harder since it`s so damn easy on vanilla settings :/

Rome: TW is the one game i think i've played the most in my entire life, MMOs included. :) Which mods do/did you use Case? My most recent install is RTR:pE with the Extended Realism mod.. i love it how it makes enemy factions land armies from the sea. :) Also can't wait until 7.0 comes out, just wish Dark and the others would give us a date already.

*continues to blatantly pretend like M2:TW isn't out yet, until he can get the cash to buy it* ... lalalalaa.... :p

I tried all the big mods, RTR PE is very good but really I prefered just Darthmod on it`s own, makes it way harder without screwing up the territories too much. Personally I think RTR increases the number of cities way too much once you conquer the italian peninsular you have such a massive economy that no one can ever beat you. The initial struggle for survival seems to be extended in Darthmod you always feel on the backfoot where only strategic genius will allow you to survive where as in RTR it`s just throw out another army win or lose throw out another army ect.

Ah it seems that if you wipe a faction you can play them next time you start a new game, atleast I can play Scotland and Spain now, going to be hard to wipe Russia though :)

I definately agree about the Romans - they were always too easy once you took the Italian peninsula. Greece and Macedon seem to have the same "problem" once they grab Athens, Sparta and all the surrounding rich citystates. I haven't tried R:TW it with just Darthmod though - i don't think i could go back to not needing the Auxilia buildings. :) So instead i stick to the harder factions in RTR - like Numidia, Pontus or Thracia.. those have it proper hard in the beginning - Pontus especially with the ER mod since it introduces the Galatians as a faction.

So going to buy this one! I'm a big fan of the Total War series. Especially Rome:Total War was awesome!

This game is really good. However, part of me thinks that its just a rehash of the same old formular and it is very little different from past total war titles.

The graphics are a tad nicer than rome but what really makes it stand out is the age in which it is set. Seiges are great with some really nice castle skins.

Overall a great game but could have done a bit more to push the genre forward. It really isnt very different from Rome.

The troop movement seems rather bugged :( When I try to get my spear men to attack, they just seem to stand still!

yeah I've had some funny troop movements, manuevered some heavy knights into a flanking position then charged in and one charged in and the rest milled around and admired the scenery.

Generally I like it so far, but a couple of annoying things for me...

The new timescale is crap. I've already modded it back to 2 turns for 1 year and showing the year instead of the turn. Not being able to mod much at the moment (due to most things being in packs) is also a pain.

Alliances are still broken too often by the AI and the AI is still too stubborn in accepting ceasefire proposals (had France by the knackers and they still wouldn't accept...)

The pope's rating doesn't seem to be affected if another catholic country sieges one of your cities. It only goes down if they actually engage you in battle.

Merchant incomes are a little too low (even a long way from the capital) to make buying them worthwhile. Either the income needs increasing or the rate at which they gain finance needs increasing.

These are all relatively minor things though which will hopefully get fixed - on the whole it feels like it has more depth than RTW and well worth the wait.

If your comp was good enough to play Rome on decent settings will it be good enough to play Medieval 2 on decent settings? Or is the gfx side very upgraded?

The graphics have been given a big upgrade (although its not always obvious) so the requirements are a bit higher for M:TW2. Running with low settings is ok tho - so I wouldnt worry. The demo isnt a great thing for trying to determine how good it will be, as the games has a few tweaks for better performance.
