Ive always had a small extra computer hosting all my files. And ive been using it to play dvd movies on my projector. But I always hated the cabinet, and that you needed an extra keyboard/mouse to start the movies.

Finally I decided to rework the whole thing. Threw the cabinet away and built it into my drawer where my amplifier also is standing. That solved my problem with an ugly cabinet, now ive only got a buzzing drawer hehe. Ive got a couple og pics of the stuff here for you entertainment.

I also installed XBMC on it (running linux), which is in my opinion a VERY solid application when it comes to playing movies and music or whatever you wanna do (endless possibilities with plugins). I solved the extra keyboard problem by buying a small cordless numpad to control everything (nice config files in XBMC to take care of this). Only problem I got now is that I have to turn on the projector every time I want to change the song - so Im gonna mount a small LCD screen on my wall (hence my other thread) to easily change the music (and i will probably add some web interface or w/e to control if im at a computer).

This is sooooo cool I think - at least it was fun to make :D

Couple of pics of drawer, my external dvd drive, cordless numpad (as remote) and projection.

I hope you got proper cooling in that drawer :)

Otherwise i think HTPC cases can look awesome

My favorite is the nexus one

Altho its rather special look might not fit in with the other electronic as well as regular HTPC cases.

Very fucking cool. My friends used to have their media centre inside an old speaker case, and then had some LEDs inside it so it glowed when on, just for the lulz. But the power unit melted the glue they used so now they have inside a striped out dvd player case (and can still even play dvd's as they put the compter's dvd player where the cases used to be), and have it in their amp stack, which looks very cool as well.

Must spread some rep etc etc

I have Netgear 'Digital Entertainer HD EVA 80000'. I plug in a USB drive with media on and it will sort and play any of the normal file types. Also, over the home network it catalogues anything it can find - so hide the pron! I don't use wireless for the network connection I have a couple of those Netgear Power Socket Network Adapters, works great for streaming HD movies I downloaded.

Plenty of places sell it online and I've not had any problems configuring it like some.
