Football May defect to the other side

I have been a Pes fan for ages, I always prefered how it played to Fifa. In Pes 2009 and 2008 I did not really like how the game played. The version before 2008 (think it was Pes7?) was quite good, but i found the formations were retarded as you could not play online with 3 defenders due to how strong the wing position was.

Anyways back on topic.

Has anyone here played Pes 2009 and then defected to Fifa 09? I keep hearing people do this and Fifa does look like it could be more fun, I know some peopole who only play Fifa will come in here going on about how great it is, but i'd like the opinion of a Pes man.

tbh what your saying about 3 defenders at the back compared to the strong wingers. Thats not really a great argument to move to fifa just because of this. Why not just counter it by putting more defenders in instead?

I know my answer isn't what you waited for but to think about changing a game just because of the strength of the wingers is silly that ofc is just my opinion

Stick with it if your a fan of PES and try to counter it instead of running away from it, hehe

Just to make a point, the reason I am considering switching is not purely down to the formation argument. Your posts kinda makes it sound like this is the only reason I want to switch...its not. I dont like the dribbling or how the shooting/crossing works.
Also the fact there is no German league annoys me no end as I like playing as Bayern Munich. Also I dont WANT to have to download all these stupid files to be able to convert the Dutch league into the German one. If the game was good enough, I would live with it. But I dont feel the game is good enough.

I always preferred having 3 defenders as it would give me 5 in midfield, but the way Pro Evo works means your CB's get abused by wingers (Hell, even with 3 defenders the SB's run forward far too much & yes I know how to cure that little game flaw). I cant "put more defenders in" because that either makes me play with 4-5 defenders...which defies the point of playing 3 in the first place.

Amphrax, have you played Fifa 09 enough to give me an honest comparison? I dont wanna sound like a ****, but i get the feeling you have not played Fifa 09 and are basing your comparison on old games (which I have also done).

thing is now fifa is jsut as good as PES against other people, and much better one player because of the licencing ect

i think PES gave fifa a massive kick up the arse but fifa has caught up now and imo taken over

That's what im thinking as well. Also on PES forums it seems people are now starting to switch. hmm, fuck it, i will buy it and see what i think

Im normally a PES man as well, but got FIFA09 at the weekend to for a change.

Got to say im loving it atm, gameplay is nice. Matches seem to flow naturally, opposition make mistakes like humans do (go hammered by a ferocious kung fu style tackle last night) and the manager mode is really well put together.

oh and be a pro is top fun, im trying to cement a first team place as a Fabregas type midfielder. Nice change of style to play as a single member of the team, remembering to trackback and cover, calling for passes into space when you see runs and shouting at your monitor when your teammates ignore you

I think Pes has something like "Be a Pro". I think its called "Be a Legend" lol. Hopefully get the game on Thursday

Yeah that was the one. I enjoyed that, till I installed Vista and realised the game did not like it one bit!

Lol I was gonna part exchange Pes for Fifa, but then I thought "ahh what if you make a mistake" so i'll hold onto it...also I could not resists amazon's charms!

Well quite a few of the annoying flaws have gone away. The week before the new one came out I decided to give the 2008 version a go and found the same old with the AI being basically, piss easy and plain stupid in most situations. That was why I stopped playing it apart from against other people...

After getting the new one, I found it nigh on impossible to score until practicing a little to see how the power gauges. Basically, the shooting has improved but then, so has the AI. No longer can you just run down the wings nor dribble around effectively the entire opposition; even on 3 stars it'll give you problems. It's become a much more pass/team based game with the new version with a lot of new features in it which to me, make it a much better game. The only reason I wont be playing it much though is the fact that no-one in my house this year likes football games or is good at them

Still find the traditional formation of 3 CBs, DM, CM, two midfield wingers, Shadow striker and 2 CFs to be the best... wingers are less of a problem if you set your wingers out very wide and high in the midfield, but give them backward arrows and adjust your aggression through the game to compensate.

My only gripe is the crossing from near the corner flags which isn't nearly as good as the previous game.


The thing that always put me off about fifa was the fact it was basically an arcade game. Has this changed? If so, might be tempted to give that a go

It changed last year. Pro became the arcade game, fifa became a simulator. They rebuilt fifa 08 from the ground up and it worked. 09 is a continuation, but when you are a Pro man, change is hard.

Game came through today. Think I was playing on Semi Pro which is 2 Stars in Pes Terms (I think). Cant really do any skills, let alone effectively but I have been browsing youtube for tips. Gonna have a play tonight/tomorrow.

So far the passing is great, the off the ball movement of the players means the through balls are fun. Pes always felt like your passing was a little 'restrictive' especially on through balls. You'd find the player would never pass the ball where you hoped. Fifa seems to be much better at this.

I cant cross to save my life, but like PES there is an art to that so I will have to keep practising!

Tried doing some of the skills in fifa. Had to write the button combinations down as I kept forgetting them! I need more practice but it's still great fun. Gonna increase the difficulty on my next game.

Also I will play around with the formations, been using the club defaults whilst learning the game
