AMD did well with the 2xx series, i'm sure they'll come back with something magic. I'll not be buying one though, my gtx 780 should last a good 4+ years, possibly longer.

From what I'm reading at the moment might go for 2x 970 in SLI same region of cost as a 980 and a number of the cards can run silent, insane.

Yeah the only shitty thing is they suck at 4k because they put a 256bit bus so the 780ti is still better for it.

Kind of shitty of them, it wouldn't have cost them much and the cards would be so good.

Suck being a strong word, but deliberately performance impeded >.>

Ultimately this is just the start of the Maxwells so it is easy to see where the improvements will come in the future, plus lower heat/energy makes it a dead certain for a dual GPU card probably as soon as AMD release something.

Allegedly offset by some compression tech so it doesn't need the higher bandwidth of a wider bus.

On which benchmarks ? http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-970-maxwell,review-33038-9.html doesn't show the effect you describe.
