hi all.
i'd need some info, how to hit the biggest with a 2hander slash sword..

the problem:
i wasnt able to test it, but i was told ages ago, that the damage of a hit(excluding skills) depends on strength(with a 2h slasher) + weapon speed (lower the better) + weapon utility.

is it correct ? its important because 2h malice axe isnt good utility, so if id search for another, id hit better?

2nd question: quickness + haste buffs decrease the time between swings with the weapon. but is it like -2 seconds with x quickness, or -40% time with same qui?
so shall i try to cap it at 2.0 effective swing speed, or do i get more benefit if i get an 5.8 spd weapon? because if it works like the % method, ill get better with the slower, don i?

thank you

re: 1 - it's weapon quality not utility & Malice is 100% so you're ok.

dunno about q.2 tho...

Haste gives a % increase in swing speed rather than a hard x.x seconds, so the actual benefit depends on the weapon you are using. Quickness gives a similar haste benefit - there is an equation as to the % haste benefit per point in quickness but off the top of my head I don't remember it...also afaik quickness is soft capped at 250 (including buffs), so any points in quickness over that do not give the same proportional benefits. There is a website somewhere that will work out your swing speed for you based on weapon, haste and quickness - if I cba later I'll see if I can find it again. :)

if u want to hit HARD as possible (i.e frontloading) then get slowest weapon with base quickness. u would hit for massive amounts per swing but take so long doing it.

tahts also the stupid way of hitting, best thing is dmg over time, someone did some tests i cba to search for but generally hasted v unhasted it looks something like this

1. no quickness no haste
500 a swing (just using round numbers to make this easier)

1.500, takes 5s
2. 1000
3. 1500
4. 2000 = total damage, with 20s total swing speed

add some capped haste in there and qui etc and u will see this kind of trend
1. 300, takes 2s
2. 600
3. 900
4. 1200
5. 1500
6. 1800
7. 2100
8. 2400
9. 2700
10. 3000 = total damage, with 20s total swing speed

get the picture? (these numbers are just randomly made up by me just to show the idea ;P but they arent far off

i knew that one..
the point was to get a weapon with:
-4.5 spd +cap quickness and hit with 1.5 swing speed
-6 spd +capped qui and hit with 2-3 seconds(rounded numbers)

because the higher spd weapon the better damage, but to get the most damage over time :
-IF quickness bonus grants % to the swing speed, than i should get the slowest as possible.
-IF quickness bonus grants a certain ammount of seconds for the swing speed it just doesnt matter what weapon i use..

dunno if i cleared up my prob

You will not cap swingspeed as paladin with 4.5 speed weapon anyhow. In practice you reach the highest potential DPS with the slowest weapon available to your class and reach the fastest swingspeed with it (Capped QUI and Haste, 10% TOA-haste).

Problem is you seem to be a 2H Paladin so you are more into duels and such. A faster weapon might be beneficial to pull off reactionaries/positionals.
