Always better with a face no-one knows these days.

Agreed on that one. there will be no preconceptions about him cos he has not been type cast in another role b4 this. I think i will find it hard to watch Tennent now in something else, and not expect him to pull out his sonic scewdriver

I think it's good. Entirely new Doctor, new face, no preconceptions about the way he's going to play it, and Steve Moffat is an amazing writer so I have high hopes.

While we're on the subject of BBC licence money - they've commisioned a six part series of Being Human. Which is just totally YAY. Those of you that didn't watch it can watch the pilot on youtube, and really should watch it even though they've scrapped 2 out of 3 cast members.

I watched the pilot last feb (i think) and tried to series link it at the time, then realised it was a one off, bit dissapointed as i thought it looked quite good, quite clever idea i thought

I was only talking to my brother on christmas day about it, then i saw the trailer the next day on BBC3, which was a bit odd

There are snipits of background stories on the BBC site which gives you an insight to the characters, hope it wiil be good

I think how we pay for the licence and what we get needs reviewed.

We're on the brink (some say we're there with bit torrent and tools like the iPlayer or BT vision) of mass downloadable high definition content where you can get what you want when you want it.

I have BT Vision that cost me £6 a month, also have SKY that cost me £22 a month. Been doing some work in the room where my SKY+ box is, and it been disconnected for 3 months, and i haven't missed it one bit.

The warranty is up on the SKY+ box at the end of the month and i'm thinking of canceling it. The BT box has a HDMI output on it for the free to air HD channels that are supposedly coming, and i can record/rewind/stop/start just like my SKY+ box

Anything else i miss from SKY i.e. Lost, i just get off the torrent sites anyway

I stopped using SKY as there wasnt anything really worth watching. I can not understand why people watch SKY1 as the adverts are so intrusive and as you are paying for this service why have adverts at all?

Thats been my argument for years, why people pay for pay per view stuff is beyond me, pay monthly fee, pay again for the event then sit through hours of adverts every 7 minutes. Having said that at least you have the choice with Sky whether to pay or not.

I'm not a big fan of Dr Who, but I think the bbc spends money on far worse things, I mean how long has Eastenders been running? They practically financed Neighbours for 20+ years too apparently, and seriously, how many more disasters can the BBC come up with for casualty?

The majority of long running programmes on the BBC are absolute crap, and personally I would say Doctor who is mildly more entertaining that Strictly Come Ice Skating, Andrew Llloyd Webbers face or what ever they have on for the next three months on a saturday night.

That would be a good investment in a new channel. It may also bring world peace.

We ditched Sky not so long ago as well, not missing it at all, it really is just a mass of crap, I only really wanted to watched the footie anyway and half thats now vanished onto Sepanta.

It's worth noting that Tom Baker was a relative unknown before Doctor Who, his most notable role being the baddie in the Golden Voyage of Sinbad, Matt Smith could easily be considered more experienced.

Baker's characterization is easily the best remembered outside the UK and is for many fans the iconic Doctor Who, good luck to this one.

/avoids geeky discussion about limits on regeneration.

Three things:

It would be really ironic if this new, youngest, doctor would meet the chick they met at the library planet. What with her saying "you're so young" :D

Second, where the hell is the doctors daughter galavanting at?! Bring back new hotness.

Third, Tennant will be the only doctor in the history that can be, with ease, brgouht back as the doctor. Note: The second doctor is with rose in parallel world ;)

So fear not, tennant lives forever on!

Ah but Tennent in the parallel world is human (one heart) and is ageing with rose in real time

Maybe it's because I actually like a lot of the BBC's output Radio1, 6Music, BBC 7 (which, granted is repeats but still) and radio 4 for some of the comedy shows (Now Show and The News Quiz). But also stuff like nevermind the buzzcocks, QI, Horizon and others I can't be arsed to list mean that considering the alternatives (ITV, Channel 5) the BBC is head and shoulders above, quality-wise. The only channel to get close is Ch 4 and that is demanding money to keep itself going.

Also a lot of the crap churned out is following what the viewers seem to want, which is part of it's remit so you can't really blame them. Seriously think about the alternatives before wishing the BBC away. I listen to non-BBC radio but only really XFM, the rest seem to be either shite or not what I listen to. And I watch BBC1-4 a whole world more than any of the ITVs.

:iagree: what he said, i think the only thing i watch on ITV is TV Burp, the rest is BBC and a bit of C4, and dont get me started on commercial radio :(
