Who the heck to calculate a ratio between say

3000

and

1.8 x10-9 (or 0.0000000018)

The barsterds have decided to guinua pig a compulsory A-Level maths module on us in my Geology degree ;(

Most of us have no previous experience with A-Level maths so the whole thing is not working very well.....

isnt it just one divided by the other? the answer being
(3 * 10^3) / (1.8 * 10^-9) = 1.66666667 × 10^12 or (5 * 10^12) : 3

you can write a ratio as one number, and the assumption is that it's x:1, to save you having to write :1 all the fucking time.
