Yeah saw that earlier and it's a nifty "little" explosion :D

The wave probably hits tomorrow right?

Could have a few nice aurora going.

Is that the biggest ever seen?
And is it in real time, I mean those bits that fell back must have been travelling some speed to cross half the sun.

If we have seen it why will the wave be hitting us later?

Just like any other explosion really, you see it first and feel or hear it later. Just cos it's so far away the time those things take to happen are longer.

Light travels faster than anything else we know of.... Hence you see lightening before you hear the thunder. (light faster than sound)

also explains why you feel a woman's anger as soon as you walk into the room long before you hear the banshee shriek

women are composed of anti-matter, which behaves in ways that science cannot currently explain

Not the largest by a long shot.
Solar flares are rated classes A, B, C, M and X, with each class being 10x more powerful than the previous class. Once you get to X class, each number is twice as powerful as the previous one.

The flare in those videos was M2.

The most powerful flare of recent years was in November 2003. It was so powerful it temporarily blinded the CCDs on satellites watching. It has been rated AT LEAST X28, and possibly as high as X45.

By wave i thought they meant some sort of E.M wave which would also travel at light speed! so should arrive when we see it. But the things hitting us later are high energy protons etc

oh ffs dont say Flares are back...
B'dum tish! :)
The thing is that as far as the Sun is concerned, flares ARE back. It's approaching a period of enhanced activity as the peak of it's 11 year cycle.
