For those interested, another Mass Lone Demonstration has been organized to take place on the 15th of August in a rally against the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005.
These demonstrations, which are spearheaded by comedian and political activist Mark Thomas, have proven a massive success in the past (the last lone demonstration consisting of 2148 individuals, campaigning for everything from “World Peace” to the “Campaign to turn August into a bank Holiday”.
The Serious Organised Crime and Police Act (SOCPA) was introduced in 2005 by David Blunkett as a means to remove peace campaigner Brian Haw from parliament square. This law states that anyone within 1km of parliament square must obtain permission before entering the area with a banner, badge or t-shirt with any slogan that could be considered a form of protest.
The Mass Lone Demonstrations involves applying for such permission on a individual basis, proving this rather unfair law which removes freedom of speech, untenable.
