There is no option for that, because it's your DUTY to go out there and try it. This poll should shame you into it.

Because marmite, thick butter, on the crust end of a fresh white bread loaf from the bakers is one of the few true pleasures in life.

now if you'd said Lemon Curd in stead of marmite, then that would have been the TROOTH!!1

I have a tube of Vegemite in my cupboard that I got in New Zealand and am willing to send you. It's only 2 years old, but don't worry: you won't be able to tell if it's gone bad.

Fine. PM me your address and I shall introduce you to The Ways.

Don't spread it on too thick though. That's a rookie error.

thanks Dams. I think I would rather remain ignorant and clean my nasal passage with a 4 foot long blowtorch.

I'd almost go as far as to say that I'd rather snort Wasabi than eat Vege/Marmite, but tbh I'd rather not snort Wasabi :(

Marmite is the very food of the gods themselves. Salty ambrosia delivered unto us mortals in a casket of brown and gold. Anyone who doesn't like it is clearly a communist and a menace to right minded gentlefolk everywhere.

As I sit here this wonderful Saturday morning eating Marmite on hot buttered toast I had a debate with myself over what it is about Marmite that people love or do not love.

For me, I love it, the way the salt tingles over my tongue followed by the smooth taste of butter mopped up by awesome Dutch bread (because yes folks Dutch bread is in a different class to that which you can buy in the UK) which enhances its lip smacking flavour.

Adding cheese is awesome or even mayonnaise *grins*

So please why do you love or hate Marmite.

haha i just so happen to be eating some too! :p

As Damini says dont spread it too thick, and if you havent had it before spread a tiny amount over your toast.

Is nicest on white bread imo :)

This poll STILL needs a "marmite? meh, whatever" option.

This thread just reminds me that Toto is crap, and never acknowledged my gift of marmite, nor responded to the taste test.

I'd rather smear my own body's fermented secretions on my tongue than Marmite. I have tasted the horror that is Marmite, it is not as bad as Bovril, but still very high up on the List of Yuck :p

What is though about the taste that people don't like... this is what I am trying to understand. We all know that some love it and some hate it but why?

Marmite is the consistency of shit the day after you drink a lot of guinness.

And probably tastes as bad :p

it doesn't go with my concept of smeary things that go on stuff. it's not the texture or anything, perhaps it's the level of saltyness? I mean, I love sambal/wasabi/mustard/chutney/pickles for spice and zest, that kind of thing. (Vege|Mar)mite is just salty rank stuff about on a par with Bovril in the measurement of yuck.

Also, I like ketchap, and similar soy based products, that can be sweet or salty, so that's not it either.

I like the saltyness which is unusal for me as I am not a lover of salt at all.

It is like the hit I get from salt and vinegar crisps that sharp intake of breath feeling. It is a substance which I have loved since childhood along with anchovy paste. I am not a lover of Bovril though but this is more to do with its origins and the fact the nuns made us drink it when we were poorly (as a test of sickness I feel).
