Just back from seeing him live, details of his remaining 2003 tour dates are on www.mtcp.co.uk

If you can get to one, do so.

(Or I'll stab you)

I don't think hes anything special either. His shows seem to be a cross between Newsnight and a less-funny Have I Got News For You. Bit too heavy going for my liking - HIGNFY is about as far as I like to go mixing political viewpoints with comedy.

The Mark Thomas "Comedy" Product had its moments but then he ranted too much he forgot to put the comedy in so they had to rename the show of course.

It then became deeply boring. Yes he has some vaild points to make but he became the modern day Ben Elton imo, very unfunny and then just tiring. I don't mind politics but its like watching Marxism for the Under 5's.

Mark Thomas is midly amusing, but once he gets going he goes beyond "comedy" into the Diceman arena. Spewing vitriol and hatred against anyone might be okay for some right-on student gathering who have just read Das Kapital, but its basically in the same intellectual league as Bernard Manning.

I never really liked his TV shows, they were a poor replica of Ben Elton anyway (who rapidly moved away from political comedy once he had the sense to see how banal it becomes), and I did see him live once, at a pro-Cuba gig, where he pandered to the audience who found it extremely funny when he "joked" about murdering democratically elected politicians.

His earlier shows on C4 were more comedy based than his more recent ones, I do agree with them being less comical of late and more political.

His live act is the perfect amalgamation of the two, never was there a dull moment during either half of the show :)

Well worth a visit imo! :D
