lo all
im a q3 player having a go at cs so go easy, i have installed the retail version of cs, the retail patch to 1.3 and the retail map pack.
the only servers i have tried connecting to are b/w, the problem i have is that sometimes i can connect no problem and other times its says cannot find map xxx.
err i presume there are more maps i need but i dont know which and do i extract the full contents of the download to which folder??

help please

a list of the popular maps would be nice

also i'm thinking of going from win 2k pro to win xp pro is this a good move for cs?

Im like you mate, I sympathise
Theres loads of map packs, god knows which give you all the right ones,try www.counter-strike.net for thier map pack.I recently set up a freinds cs and ended up transfering my whole cs file to their pc rather than find ing the right packs.
For some reason the creators of CS have decided that the people who get cs for free are more important than the ones who pay for it. Go figure

Never used XP as an OS, but i use Win2000 Pro, and i love it, no problems what so ever, and i find my ping is better than when i was on '98

I must admit that my ping on average has risen whilst under Win 2k Pro, but this could equally be due to my ISP turning to shit and general crappyness of the internet at a whole.

Win 2k gives me an annoying won't-draw-the-Glock-in-my-hand problem on Project IGI, my old scanner now refuses to work despite several updates plus a couple of other minor glitches (mostly game related) but that aside, Win 2k has crashed once since I installed (ie: not even CTRL-ALT-DELETE worked) and has been running smoothly for that last 3 months with NO problems at all.


I will never even contemplate touching Win XP.

XP sucks for CS. You will encounter loads of problems, its not worth it.
