Man Utd and spending?

After all the mouth united fans gave last season and all the seasons before about chelsea buying a squad and buying the league. Which i might add which was a bit hypocritical as united have been doing this for years (please dont mention the youth system, poaching the best youngsters from every youth system in the NW is hardly not throwing money at it). United have gone and bought themselves a squad this season to make sure they dont have a poor showing as i think last season was a massive fluke mainly on the injuries front, if you had some injuries early on in this upcoming season then i think without the signings you have made you would of been buggered. Fair played you needed to, but does this mean your going to stop whineing about chelsea and eat a bit of humble pie?

Also i think you better sign atleast one defender, because thats where you are severly lacking apart from rio and heinze i dont rate any of your other defenders at all.

Should be intresting to see how the teams gels, as always you can never tell until you see the team play a few games, will be slightly annoying to see them run away with the league but i dont think this season is going to be preditable at all. I wont be too bothered about it anyway im more intrested to see how oldham are going to do, looks like we are going for it more than ever this season, but like i said before you never know what the teams is like until you see them play again and then one week they can decide they are going to play crap, id much rather dicuss the going on of that but i dont think many of you people would be too clued up on that ;) try not to whine too much ive actually tried to not go overly anti-united as much as i normally do, if you whine im not going to bother reading it.

Looking forward to the new season, i really dont have a clue whats going to happen in any of the leagues as so many teams have undergone massive changes.

Aye Vidic and Gary Neville are shit defenders :p Evra was the best left back in the country last season.

They are not buying a team they are adding to a squad, Scholes and Giggs cannot run forever Nani and Anderson are replacements. As for Hargreaves well we all know what he is about. The reason they struggled towards the end was lack of cover. I think Man Utd are allowed to spend big money because they make it back from sponsorhips and crowd attendances. Unlike Chelsea who run at a constant loss and are only afloat due to Abramovich. you never see Giggs in the papers talking about rejecting a 120k contract or Gary Neville for that matter or Scholes and they are all better players and better men than Lampard.

That is the problem and Chelsea just dont get it. Lampard has had 3 good seasons and in the time his wages have gone from about 20k a week to him asking for over 120k Fergurson would have told him to fuck off.

I agree Man Utd have spent, all teams seem to need to do it unless they get lucky. How could you compare the ridiculous block-buying Chelsea did to that?? They actually bought players they had very little intention of playing just to deny other teams the opportunity to play them and thus compete.

Check out this list, I was surprised how little some had played and how big the squad got:

People's Daily Online -- List of Chelsea signings since Roman Abramovich took over

The word "hyprocritical" seems a bit strong in that instance personally, as I've never argued about spending, but I have argued in the manner that they have spent it (and never made it back btw - check out the deficit in that list above, they just got Abramovich to sign another cheque from the billions he's made seriously fucking up the North of Russia's ecology with badly-managed oil-distribution systems).

apart from rio and heinze i dont rate any of your other defenders at all.

Oh dear, we'll tell Vidic & Neville to retire now they don't have your seal of approval. As if - they're both universally called good defenders by critics and fans alike. But sorry Calean, Evra really is distinctly average in that Man Utd line-up, but hey - I'm no football expert either.

Looking forward to the new season, i really dont have a clue whats going to happen in any of the leagues as so many teams have undergone massive changes.

Lots of teams do change so massively over signing periods that it becomes hard to judge when the 'team' you used to know actually stopped being one and became a different one.

if you whine im not going to bother reading it.

Small point, how do you know it's a whine without already reading it? :p Either way I'm not whining just stating an opinion and I thank you for adding yours Brite.

I don't know much about Oldham, but good luck to ya over the coming season at least :)

For starters where is the football tag?

And you are clueless when it comes to commenting about Utd.

Man United have been poaching for years. Chelsea did the same, Man United are biggest bunch of hypocrites and started sulking, maybe because they no longer could buy any player in the world.

On that note, face it, the Premiership is shite now. Its all run by jolly foreigners who want to make money, watch the Championship for real football(no jokes about Leeds please, head them all before :p)

Evra actually was superb last season, he just took time settling in, not the best defender but going forward is his strength.

I agree with that, maybe I should have said Evra is a distinctly average defender - he's like Roberta Carlos at times - nice to look at but at key moments his position is empty cos he's buggered off up the field and his team-mates have to scramble back and cover for him.

Hmm, so Brite, you make a thread about something you end up saying you dont really care about anyways? Why bother making the thread? :p

Chelsea, they spent alot of money at a rush in what seemed to be a simple attempt to prevent other teams getting the players, unfortunately they understood that when comes to alot of players it is money that talks and not regular first team action.

Chelsea spent a hell of a lot of money to win the title, thus buying it. Man Utd are spending alot of money, however they already have the title thus they only trying to retain it. Whether you see this as a difference or not is another matter :)

You mentioning alot about a team you dont seem to have much understanding about so I will not go into detail about them as if you wanted to know then you would have gained abit of knowledge before making this thread, however it clear you dont understand where Man Utd's strength and weakness are.

Just one thing on the injury front. Yeah we were really lucky there. Going a significant period without Neville, Ferdinand or Vidic, no Saha or Solskjaer. Hmm, infact the period basically meant the only part the squad which could operate near to peak was the midfield (which is Utd's real strength anyways). And what was Chelsea big problem? Lacking a couple of defenders, not the whole defence. But it does appear that without their central defender pairing they fall apart often whereas Man Utd managed to hold it together by playing utility players (ie O'shea) and midfielders in defence.

Wouldnt call it a fluke, would call it a strong season where they played the most attractive football, coupled with shear determination that won them the title. May have had a bit of luck due to the fact their main rivals also suffered injuries, however people always seem to ignore the injury problems Man Utd had.

Yes we spent alot this summer, and Im not particularly happy about the amount that it soon be adding up too. But that said, we needed the players and though we got some good youth players breaking through soon I think they need another couple of years before they can be deemed ready for hte big time.

chelsea only signed Malouda so no one else could sign him

Disagree.

I'd like to see SWP move on from Chelsea to get himself established in the england team while he's still got some pace in him. Anything to keep that red shite Pennant out of the first team.

Malouda will be a good addition where needed, again it gives more availability for times of fixture congestion and over the african cup next year.

By the end of last season everyone was completely burnt out. Add in two new centre backs, a midfielder, winger and a forward (and perhaps another right back, either that or a utility player) and things get a lot easier.

Liverpool on the other hand are throwing cash at anyone will sign for them, do they really need Benayoun in midfield along with everyone else? :p

great argument!

i bet you have really changed his opinion with your vast knowledge!

Anyway as Thadius said, the Prem is boring these days, its pretty much only down to money with the odd fluke getting up into the Euro spots. The lower divisions are much more interesting.

Bollocks.

Wes Brown, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, David Beckham, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, John O'Shea, Darren Fletcher and quite a few others came through the youth team. We didn't poach them from anyone and we have produced as much if not more young quality British talent than any other Premier League club in the last decade. Most of those boys were in the side when we won the treble and they have a staggering medal collection between them.

We are still producing great young players today, Jonny Evans and Phil Bardsley are both stars of the future.

wonder what would happen if FIFA put a hardcap on how much u can buy a player for (wich includes any signing bonuses etc so u cant get away with it that way) and how much a year they can pay them.

i think it would give players more options as to where they REALLY wanna go, insted of just looking at where the money is.

think that would be intresting tbh. and it would give more teams the option to get better players without going bankrupt for the next 15 seasons.

i mean, some of the pricetags/payrolls on the players are just insanly overrated.

Other clubs dont have half the UK supporting them for a reason unknown to me, jesus dont get me started. Even half of china support united, this means you have so much more money than any other club and you seem to want clubs to stick to a rule that you only spend what you earn? doesnt seem like anyone would be able to compete if it was that way, i cant see why you, one of the richest clubs in the world complain when other clubs can spend money regardless of where it comes from. Surely you must see that in the eyes of someone from a smaller club that to me it looks like a joke you complaining about another club spending money.

As for neville not being a complete shithouse, i think ill leave that upto noel

MAN UNITED’s GARY NEVILLE asked Manchester City fan Noel to sign a Union Jack guitar for him during a radio interview yesterday.

Noel obliged, writing on the back: “Dear Gary, How many caps have YOU got for England!! How many do you think you deserved? I’ll tell you — f***in’ none!! Lots of love, Noel Gallagher M.C.F.C.”

Man Utd are a well run business at the end of the day, Chelsea are not. Utd did not buy up players just to stop everyone else having them.

As for the Gallaghers, they are both little faggots :p.

From Wiki...

Beckham was born in Leytonstone, London, England the son of David Edward Alan "Ted" Beckham, a kitchen fitter and Manchester United fan, and Sandra Georgina West,[12] a hairdresser. He regularly played football in Ridgeway Park, Chingford as a child. His maternal grandfather, Joseph West, is Jewish,[13] and Beckham has spoken of the influence the religion has had on him but is not known to practice Judaism or any other faith, though he stated in his book Both Feet on the Ground that growing up he always attended church with his parents and sisters.

His parents were fanatical Manchester United supporters who would frequently travel to Old Trafford from London to attend Manchester United's home matches. David inherited his parents' love of Manchester United and his main sporting passion was football. He attended one of Bobby Charlton's football schools in Manchester and won the chance to take part in a training session at FC Barcelona, as part of a talent competition. As a child he played for a local youth team called the Ridgeway Rovers coached by his father, Stuart Underwood and Steve Kirby.

He was Manchester United's mascot for a match against West Ham United in 1986. Young Beckham had trials with his local club, Leyton Orient, and attended Tottenham Hotspur's, which was the first club he played for, school of excellence. During a two year period in which he played for Brimsdown Rovers' youth team, he was named Under-15 Player of the Year in 1990.[14] He also attended Bradenton Preparatory Academy, but signed schoolboy forms at Manchester United on his fourteenth birthday, and subsequently signed a Youth Training Scheme contract on 8 July 1991.

He was part of an exceptionally talented group of young players at the club who guided the club to win the FA Youth Cup in May 1992, with Beckham scoring in the second leg[15] of the final against Crystal Palace. He made his first appearance for United's first-team that year, as a substitute in a League Cup match against the glorious Brighton & Hove Albion, and signed his first professional contract shortly afterwards. United reached the final of the Youth Cup again the following year, with Beckham playing in their defeat by Leeds United, and he won another medal in 1994 when the club's reserve team won their league.

Basically United signed him at 14, he had trials for Leyon Orient and Spurs but never signed for them. He did play at Spurs school of excellence but so did 100's of others that Spurs never signed either. In short, he wasn't poached because we had him signed up at 14, Spurs had no such agreement and had not shown any intention to do so at that point.

Ok.

Giggs was never on City's books, he was training at Platt Road with City and they were in the process of trying to sign him up when United stepped in and offered him a non-YTS deal which City were not prepared to do. They wanted him on £30 a week. You might see that as poaching but he was under no obligation to a hesitant City. In his own Auto-biography he goes into detail about what happened, he even mentions that he wore a United shirt when training at Platt Road which he got alot of abuse for.

Nicky Butt, was a junior blue but like Giggs was never signed up. Did we poach him or did City drop the ball, that is a matter of opinion as City had shown no sign of offering the lad a contract at that point.

Paul Scholes? Try...

Paul Scholes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
and
PAUL SCHOLES - MANCHESTER UNITED & ENGLAND Fansite | Golaccio.com

He joined us as a 14 year old trainee. I actually played against him in the Manchester Catholic Cup when he played for his school Cardinal Langley, we lost 21-1 and he scored 8. From an hour of researching the net I cannot see any point where he ever played for Oldham at any level although he is a diehard Oldham fan.

The Nevilles, both played at United's academy. At the same time Gary was playing some junior games for Bury because his dad was heavily involved at the club, he also played for Boundary Park under 16's as well but was never signed up to any professional club. Phil Neville represented both Bury Schools and Greater Manchester Schools while training at United's academy, he was signed up after impressing while playing for the Acadmey side.

David Beckham I already answered above, he was training with the United academy side from the age of 14, Spurs and Orient both had the chance to grab him but didn't and as someone above stated Spurs did not rate him highly at the time.

Bitter blue, what did you expect him to say. Oh and Noel is always a mouthy twat so writing a message on a guitar isn't exactly clever or brave, he certainly didn't say it on the radio at the time, would he have said it to his face though? Nope, not a chance, well unless a camera was on him because our Noel does like to play to the camera.

Having a bunch of good players, doesnt mean you have a good team (sure it helps loads tho). This is something i learnt from Zidane, Figo, Ronaldo n Co.

Good signings nontheless

Well several people alluded to my comment about Chelsea block buying players to avoid others having them. So I'll leave that.

Noel obliged, writing on the back: “Dear Gary, How many caps have YOU got for England!! How many do you think you deserved? I’ll tell you — f***in’ none!! Lots of love, Noel Gallagher M.C.F.C.”

Shame someone who has a musical talent (and for some that's opinion) can abuse his fame to make a clearly retarded statement.

He should be supporting a save the apes charity to take care of his own kind.
