So I gave up smoking Tuesday morning, doing it properly on the NHS with patches and an inhaler thingy was going pretty well, the cravings were hardly noticed. However yesterday I started to feel not quite right, coughing and sneezing and whatnot. I put this down to my body clearing out all the shit from years of smoking. I went home from work a couple of hours early. Anyway by 9pm I was in bed, I felt/feel awful. Around midnight I woke up shivering, and I mean full body shivering more like convulsions, even though i was baking hot. My heart started racing and I had a mild panic attack, I just couldn't stop breathing so fast.

Anyway, I phoned NHS direct this morning and they have said I may have swine flu :( That's the weekend fucked.

Its not swine flu, NHS Direct tell everyone that, they arent qualified medical people. They told me i had it so i called my doctor and she said no its just a bug and that the NHS direct are really bad at diagnosing swine flu, as soon as you mention you have sniffles they yell it. Doesnt help with the hysteria

There are a few bad cold viruses going around at the minute almost everyone on my FB have mentioned feeling like shit and i felt shit all last week and still have a really chesty cough

That's what you get for removing helpful toxins from your body.

Morale of the story; keep on smoking! :D

Don´t give up... sit it out!
I had the same symptoms a couple of years ago when I quit smoking from a whopping 50 fags/day to zero. You´ll eventually get over it and feel a lot better. It´s worth it!

I had the exact same thing.
Day 1) I went to bed fine, woke up feeling really sick (was at the point where you think "do I run to the bathroom?"). Had the runs and was extremely tired.

Day 2) exactly the same, except had hot and cold moments. Temperature was not too bad. Swine flu is supposed to have a really high temperature.

Day 3 & 4) Sickness had almost wore off, was not as tired but temperature changed every few hours. Appetite started to come back.

Day 5) was 99% better.

Well I went back to bed about 11am yesterday, got up a couple of times for half an hour here and there and have now just got up again. I usually sleep 5-6 hours a night but have had about 40 hours sleep in the last 48. I feel a little better today.
