Read it ages ago. It's not just a decent book, it would also make a pretty effective melee weapon. IMO the first three are as far as you need to read (Magician, Silverthorn and A Darkness at Sethanon), after that it gets a bit formulaic and dull although you can hear the dice rolling in the background all the way through the first trilogy too.

There's also a 'director's cut' which is even thicker than the original edition!

There isn't a fantasy book out there that hasn't "borrowed" at least something from somewhere else. Tolkein was the first. Everyone else follows meekly in his wake.

Finished all the books about Pug/Milamber so far. However I find the books about the empire and Mara ALOT better. Don't know why, maybe it's because of the female writer that helps him write it.

An even better series (probably the best I've read at all) is by Robin Hobb (pseudonym). The first book in the series is called Assassin's Apprentice. I deeply recommend this book.
