Lowest workable spec for DAoC

Hi

I just installed DAoC on my laptop which, I will admit, is a pile of arse. I *think* that it is a PII 500mhz with about 90 odd MB ram. However, when I try to run DAoC I get nadda, zip, bugger all. It doesn't even make the effort to load it.

Is this spec just TOO low for the game to handle or is there some other mysterious force at work?

I will write off to Right Now as well but we all know what they are like.

I do not intend to use the lap top to play the game properly but as a buff machine/trade skill machine. As it is on a wireless network it means I can buff up on my trade skillz anywhere in the house...which will be nice. :)

Cheers for any help you can provide. :)

90MB just won't do. 128MB is the strict minimum for a machine that MIGHT run DAoC and 256MB is probably more realistic.

I have a machine that is a 500MHz Celeron, 256MB and whatever the crappy onboard graphics chipset is, and it does run the classic DAoC client (at about 5 FPS maximum, but it does run).

i have 750MHz amd and 128mt RAM and DAoC lags like hell... In RvR its impossible to play if theres more than 10people on my screen... I hope SI makes DAoC lag a little less (without any details ofcourse) :/

When running DAoC on a laptop, you have to make sure you have a minimum of 16mb video ram, otherwise you get the 'zip, nada, nothing' scenario (as I found out :)). Most older laptops don't have that much video ram.

lower spec

I was running DAoC on my old PII 300 with not very much RAM, but that was only up to 1.52 - don't know if it would run later patches. I also was using BB connection and an okay gfx card.

The pc was set up to pretty much run DAoC specifically and so everything else was turned off - I ended up with +90% free resources.

Also, unless the sound was off and res turned to minimum it would freeze up. Cam was also a lag nightmare.

Not true - I manage to run a 2nd account of DAOC - Classic on my laptop which is a P3 500Mhz with 128 MB ram but only an 8 mb Gfx card. I can tradeskill and be a buffbot if i want fine even Xp on it mostly ok (well DF is a bit tough). I've also managed some smale scale RvR on it but lag does get a bit much if there's more than 1fg v 1fg.
The worst place is Camelot the dread city of lagalot. I have to go in and try turning several times just to line myself up in the right direction. Unfortunately it doesn't have a hope in hell of running SI :(

my laptop runs daoc classic...

daoc SI it gets into gothwaite, renders half the buildings, a quarter of the textures, throws a wobbly and keels over ;)

then again it does that when I enter camelot.

its 128 megs with a crappy on-board graphics card that appears to nab its 16 meg of video ram from the normal 128... (so I have 112 meg)

the processor runs on 950 sticks of celery

as you can tell it's a hard core gaming machine.... as long as you like freecell.

Nope 16megs of video ram doesnt seem to cut it.

I have 1ghz PIII 512 Meg Ram 16mb S3 Twister card. I get crashes to desktop & the imagery is all screwed up outside of DF.
Looks like my MMORPG days could be over till i can afford a new PC.

Heh, how on earth did yo uget DAoC to run in 8mb of video ram?? I couldn't even get it to start!

The specs say minimum 16mb, but I guess some systems manage it after all :D

I couldn't get it to go on a 500MHz Celeron/TNT2/128MB with Windows 98SE. Only after I upped it to 256MB would it stagger into motion and lurch off jerkily into the distance.
