Its the 48th day straight without any Sunspots - over 79% of the year has been spotless so far.
SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids
We are in solar minimum at the moment but this is turning out to be a pretty intense minima. If it continues like this we could end up breaking a lot of records this year - the year to beat is 1913 but we are getting there.
How does this affect me? Well 1913 was an extremely unusual year for weather oddities - the summer of that year set a number of high temperature records, the winter was absolutely freezing setting low temperature records and the storms in November were the worst ever experienced in the America's (which is logical since temperature differentials help feed storms).
There is also the possibility that we could be looking at the start of a Maunder Minimum type event (too early to say yet with any confidence but this is pretty much how the start would look) - thats implicated in the coldest years of the 'little ice age' so we could be looking at a chilly few years.
I'm not a weatherman but I think we'll have another cold winter this year during the minimum - get cracking on those sledges n stock up on grit
