Its the 48th day straight without any Sunspots - over 79% of the year has been spotless so far.

SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids

We are in solar minimum at the moment but this is turning out to be a pretty intense minima. If it continues like this we could end up breaking a lot of records this year - the year to beat is 1913 but we are getting there.

How does this affect me? Well 1913 was an extremely unusual year for weather oddities - the summer of that year set a number of high temperature records, the winter was absolutely freezing setting low temperature records and the storms in November were the worst ever experienced in the America's (which is logical since temperature differentials help feed storms).

There is also the possibility that we could be looking at the start of a Maunder Minimum type event (too early to say yet with any confidence but this is pretty much how the start would look) - thats implicated in the coldest years of the 'little ice age' so we could be looking at a chilly few years.

I'm not a weatherman but I think we'll have another cold winter this year during the minimum - get cracking on those sledges n stock up on grit :p

I think I will just wait and see. Weather forecasters are the most useless humans on earth. I cant remember the last time they got anything right.

The met office is improving actually, they get it right more often than they get it wrong these days.

Same here, pissing it down again now actually. Was freezing this morning and the leaves have started dropping early.

Its the earth's natural cycle showing itself yet again. All the global warming nutjobs and assorted (highly paid) "experts" will have to have a bit of a re-think.

Really? Not up here in the north west they dont. I check the weather most days and they ALWAYS get it wrong.

Maybe its different for other parts of the country.

They did actually. But the problem was, they did it just before mid-August, and then the week after there was blistering sunshine (at least in London).

I really don't trust the met office at all except for same day forecasts. The amount of time I've checked the night before and told to expect rain for at least 6 hours the next day, and then hasn't rained a drop... *shakes head*

Ewww - I think the reward for those type of spots is a nice malignant melanoma :p

Doubtful, we of the freckly persuasion avoid anything brighter than a 60w bulb, let alone direct sunlight.

people with these on the other hand.
