Has anyone else tried the demo for this? i got it from here http://www.gamershell.com
it says it requires direct x 8.1b which i have...(comes with XP SP1) but the ingame gfx are all munty and unplayable...
Sooo.....anyone got any ideas?

The demo works okay on my system.

If you haven't already, Install Direct X 9 and install the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Normally I try the latest and the one just preceeding it. Sometimes the older one can work better.
