anyone read the hellbound heart?

im looking for books along those lines. ive got cabal and weaveworld which are meant to be similar and ive ordered "books of blood volume 1-3".

i really wanted to know the history behind the cenobites, the engineer and their "world" but apparently its only available as a comic book?

the films dont really explain it either :/

get thee to the library Trading Standards Man!...if they don't know then they'll find out for you and they should also have a book behind the counter called "who writes like" which will give you a list of similar gubbins.

thats a good idea library girl but our local library is a bag of shit, literally.

their range of books is undesirable to say the least.

do the films not shed any light on what you want to know?

well bubba if its anything like the libraries down here then the ones from each authority are all linked so even if your local library may not have what you want the books could be in the system and they can order them for you or tell you what library has them.

for example:
in bournemouth we have 12 libraries and we share the stock if someone wants a book sent to my library from say, Boscombe library then it costs them £1.05 or we can phone that library they find the book and put it to one side and the customer goes in and collects it.

its very rare that any one public library will be a single entity and i should imagine there are quite a few in 'boro.

from having a look on their website and the catalogue they have 2 copies of The Hellbound Heart in book (adult fiction not graphic novel) format

rofl Bahu that is totally me, give her red hair and you've nailed me... i mean it!

and top tip guys, if you are a member of the library and never remember to get your books back on time then you can register at Elf | Your Personal Email Library Reminder Service and as long as your library is registered also (if theyre not you can always ask them and i'm sure they will) you will get an email to remind you to either return or renew your books!

Join the library, its free and you get books FREE, CDs and movies all for a fraction of the cost of renting them from a well known high street video rental store, we do PS games in our libraries down here also! This year is the national year of reading so you can just trot to your local library and join up without any form of ID or proof of address

barker to avoid :

coldheart canyon, gallilee, sacrament

his best :

weaveworld, the great & secret show, and the superb Imajica.

and what a proper fantasy novel for kids SHOULD be like :

Abarat series.

Nothing really matches the horror slant of his early work, he became more " fantastical" and alas, when rich, famous & married went well, poo but c'est la vie !

would be superb if a new magic box movie was done say in Victorian times, or even further back. Heck lets go ancient babylon and see if we can find out if Gozer had anything to do with it :p

weaveworld does ( like his other bigger novels) take oh ahm like half the book to get going, but stick with it !

Just the comic book I'm afraid. He never really delved into his own mythos history (well he probably has, but hasnt published it).

As Zede says, the Abarat books are probably the better of his later books, not really horror anymore but his descriptive talents for the characters and locations really does make the story come alive. Stitchlings are scary.

Some of the stories in the Books of Blood I still rate among his best work to be honest.
