Trying to sort out a problem with my computer which seems to be related to my graphics card and possibly the driver.

The card is a GV-R9000 pro2 128 DDR.(Gigabyte Maya Radeon 9000 pro 2).
System is running 2x AGP (set correctly) Winxp AMD 1200 athlon 512 ddr 2100.

When the accelerator kicks in my system freezes, this has only started happening recently and i have not installed or changed anything on my system for some months.

Looking for the right driver is a nightmare, ATI suggests one driver, Giga-Byte suggests another, every independant site recomments others and everyone seems to have a different answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tried reseating the card, in case it has just come loose (due to heat or whatever)?
Might as well check other components while the cover is off.

When selecting drivers I always go for card manufacturer first, then chip manufacturer, then look for what others recommened as tested and works.

So, I would start with manufacturers supplied drivers. Then go to their site and see if they have updates. If they do and they work keep them, if not then revert back to supplied drivers.

Then go to chip manufacturer's site and see if they have anything new. If they have and it works then keep them, else revert back to whatever we ended up with after step 1.

Finally if further new updates are recommended as being beneficial then try those, but again if they don't work go back to wherever I was after step 2 (though that often involves removing everything and starting at the beginning again).

So... if I was in your place I would make sure I remove all vid drivers and start again with the supplied ones. If that don't work I'd be looking to swap the card out incase it has died :(
