Well last night I was bored so I d/led AHL beta 4.
After hearing so much about how nice the community was and how fun the game was, I had some expectations.
I read the manual, leaned thebasics and went to find some servers, 125 the ingame browser found. No wireplay ones.
I joined a BW teamplay one and started shooting, diving and figuring out weapons. It was very quiet, no one spoke on text or said anything except the occasional LOL or GG at end. There was twice last night people moaning about campers and game speed. Oh well I though it's a HL game these things come as part and parcel.
Okay then I joined a DM server, did pretty well over two games I thought, finishing in top 5 out of 12 players. This DM seerver (was a blueyonder one) was really friendly, good attitude.
This morning, tweaked my ocnfig for AHL, gfx all the way up, fps up, connection tweaks applied
Joined a Team DM server, while I was joining a team two people were having an argument -someone was getting flamed by his team because they said he did not know how to play
Okay I ignored it, continued to play -more flaming, general lamer behaviour.
It has been said in these forums that AHL is great, lamer free servers, good attitudes -no camping. Well in my 4 games of AHL over one day I have seen all of the above, the game impressed me but the players are just ex-CS players looking for somewhere else to be lame.
Ah well I like the game and will play it now and again, unfortunetly it wont have a community feel. I would not want to speak to others because I know that eventually someone would flame someone else. I would ignore everything said by others because it would probably ruin the enjoyment of the game.
Hey lesson learnt from this? Online community as a whoel, as it grows encourages more and more lame behaviour, new players get it given to them and so give it to others. Its a vicious cycvle of flaming.
