In truth, AOC while having SO many nice things and so much promise, has been seemingly a blunder of mistakes since launch, compacted with pure missing features that they led the playerbase to beleive were actually in the game.

For me, and many others it seems if the friends list and guild forum is anything to go by (and it is) the main thing, is the FUN FACTOR is missing.

The game went from being fun to a grindfest in the space of 6 patches (4 weeks), that combined with some terrible showstopping bugs has done untold damage to what still is a game with great potential.

I like the game and the feature set.

What I don't like is the buggy graphics engine. For me the game doesn't run with shader model 3.0 on (nVidia's) 175.19 and June's DirectX. Have to run it on shader 2.0.

Beta drivers (177.66) work and AoC work to a degree, it doesn't crash, but I am missing all particle effects, have strange texture errors and the performance is shit.

June's DirectX also broke CoD 4 for me on my 8800 GTS, so from I understand atm it might be just nVidia and Funcom not following recent DirectX changes or the drivers and the engine being unfinished in the first place.

I'll watch the development for the next month and see from there, but I sure don't miss the majority of the DAoC guilds in AoC, it is very clear that they mostly had wrong expectations or just couldn't cope.

Those wrong expectations where written on the box in this case. And it shouldn't really be a matter of copping, should it? I mean, I normally play online games for fun and relaxation.

Anyway I'm not going to be the one to try to convince people what they should think is fun or not. If you are having fun, then thats great. Maybe all those quitting can push FunCom into working overtime to make the game even greater for you.

Well, I got the box after buying it and I never believe the stuff that is on the box.

Might be the difference between a lunatic kid and a realistic adult :p.

I agree that the technical issues with the game has been more frustrating than the actual gameplay. Using newest nVidia drivers for my 9800GTX and having quite horrible framerates was kind of annoying and especially since it was not only because the game is so resource demanding, but because zones were / are badly made from a technical viewpoint.

F.ex Field of the Dead at launch, Laceish Plains crashloop etc. Thankfully most of these have been fixed.

Will definitely look into this game at a later point, when most of the bugs, half-implemented features and technical issues are resolved. It is a fun game if you look past all that, after all. :)

I wouldn't call you a lunatic kid. But I would advice you to educate you're self before buying next time. :)

Considering you are unhappy with the game, maybe it would ve been wise if you had taken a big chunk of your own advice, mate? History should ve taught you not to believe anything published by a non-independent source.

I don't understand what you mean. I did educate myself about the game before buying it. Thats one of the reasons why I'm disappointed.

FunCom did not deliver what they promised.

Anyway, Ill leave you to you're forum, there is no reason for me being here really.

well, by that time Warhammer will be released and most ppl wont go back to what was an extremely bad experience, no matter how good the game became after they quit :)

have to say i'm a little bit more then just dissapointed. part of me actually wants funcom to crash and burn here just so they can never ever release something as broken again. they stated that they learned to release a finished product from their failure with AO.

and i just felt like smashing my head through the monitor when i read it.

Going back to a game you left is very unlikely, I agree. ATM I hope for a niche existence for AoC at somewhere between 100k and 400k subscribers. Should be enough to be a financial success and motivate FC to keep the show running.

However after the recent news (4 classes and 4 cities removed pre-release) I wonder why you think that the WAR-experience will be a good one?

I _really_ hope it will be, since I like the IP and always loved DAoCs RvR, but I seriously doubt it.

Mythic has three problems to deal with.
1) A tabletop fanboi base, that grew up with the IP and wont tolerate a lot of stress relating lore and atmosphere
2) An uberaggressive publisher that would like to make the game accessible to just about everyone aged 8+ (aka "the WoWeffect")
3) The oldschool DAoCers that are just waiting for RvR mk.2 (now with extra blingbling)

I dont want to be in Mythics shoes TBH...
