It's two different arguments.

Should someone serving a long sentence be released early if they are terminally ill, on compassionate grounds?

Should this man have been in prison in the first place?

This is why this thread is rubbish. It's all at cross purposes.

First the Captain Obvious bit: If he didn't do it, he shouldn't be there.

If he did it, he should rot until he dies, whenever that is. The people who died didn't get any kind of compassion, I see no reason to let him out in such circumstances.

As said above, 2 different issues.

I haven't been through enough of the evidence to make any kind of informed comment on whether he should have been jailed or not. I suspect I'm not the only one here ;)
