Anyone with a Liteon 451S or 851S may be interested in this thread which I stumbled upon over on slashdot. It's basically a firmware upgrade that in my case (451S) took my drive from being 4x4 to 8x (DVD+R) and it now supports dual layer media! Very interesting considering all the manufacturers were saying it couldn't be done without changing hardware.
Blah blah blah, may kill your drive, blah blah blah, use common sense, but for me it's a free upgrade and I just wait now for the extortionate price of DL media to drop.
