Whats bizarre about this thread is how mainstream most of the answers are.

Whenever todays music is discussed here, mainstrem music is just dismissed as shite. The only thing people own up to likeing is all hyper-credible, the more obscure the better. The sort of stuff you need to trawl the pages of the NME for.

Don't get me wrong I've been there, my record collection contains, amongst others, stuff by

Yeah, Yeah, Noh

We've got a Fuzzbox, and we're going to use it

The Guana Batz

the Gun Club

The Trashmen (best ever version of Surfin' Bird, better than the Cramps even)

The Triffids

Screamin' Blue Messiahs

The Jazz Butcher

Oh and Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel... anyone???

It is just interesting to see the whole 'my taste is more obscure that yours' thing come around again.

BTW Lester, great post. I'm guessing, but was that your dog on the original 'His Master's Voice' labels?

I think that's partly down to being a 'listening when younger' thing. Most of mine would be goth stuff hence not posting heh

The Banshees were surely one of my favourite bands for a while, the early stuff in particular .
Although I liked that Nocturne live album too, which I would have considered a "later" album tbh .

Ahhh.... old Fido, yup. But he died in '23 and we had him stuffed. Just as well as when that picture was taken the exposure time was 45 minutes. We've still got him and he sits next to the wireless now. It's so funny it looks like he's actually listening to the World Service!!

Like a cup of tea?

Bloody hell Schadenfreude, I thought I was the only other person left alive who had a record by Yeah Yeah Noh.

Also must be one of the few people who's been to a gig by the Jazz Butcher and
a) can remember who it was who was playing
b) actually went to listen to the band.

*drifts into rambling reminicences, slapped by wife, wakes to find life half over but doesn't mind as a lot of it sucked anyway*
