I've been wrestling with fvwm2 trying to get my dual monitor setup how I'd like it under X in Linux, and not having much luck.

What I want is to have a *single* window manager instance running, with *ONE* pager for moving around virtual desktops, and have either monitor display any given virtual desktop seperately. I do NOT want both monitors combined into one desktop (which is what you end up with if you turn Xinerama on under fvwm2). I also don't want my current situation which is an fvwm2 instance per 'screen' (monitor), with seperate FvwmPagers and thus no ability to move windows between them.

Yes, I already prodded the FVWM developers about this, they concluded it's not currently possible and won't be without a lot of work.

Anyone else got a multi-head setup and know of a WM that will do this ? I'll change to anything if I can get this working, even if it's something overly eye-candyish that I have to configure the hell out of to get nice and clean.

thanks,

It would be very difficult to do. Without Xinerama you effectively have two visuals. So you have two sets of state etc. Moving a window from one visual to the other would require Deep Magic(tm) if it was possible at all.

The easiest way to do it would be using Xinerama so you only have one visual but having a window manager which emulated two separate displays I don't know of any window manager that does it though.
