Linux newbie questions

this is prolly a utter utter newbie question, how do i quit out of X? :/

and anyone got a like guide on setting up XFree86? cos i kinda ballsed mine up when trying to get gf2 drivers working in linux

i set my monitor up incorrectly and i had a like 60hz refresh rate and it cained my eyes

i followed this: http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/distros/mandrake/mdk_nvidia.html and it kinda worked but kinda didnt, cos i loaded up q3 and it was just too jerky, it took ages just to move the cursor around the screen :/

and also is there a easy way to mount ntfs drives in linux? my m8 said i had to use samba(what ever the fux that is) :/

how do i quit out of X?

if you boot directly to X, then the Xserver runs in 'keepalive' mode and won't let itself be killed easily. try pressing CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. that should zap the Xserver and it will shut down. if it doesn't, or comes back etc. try pressing CTRL-ALT-F1 or F2, F3 etc to jump to another console and log in from there.
