I would run linux as a dual boot but never standalone, I would like to learn it though and get to know more about the OS.

SO, Linux runs Q3 better than Windows, also runs Q2 and Wolfy well, yet it sucks for gaming? o_O Bodhi, you're talking out your arse :p

I know for a fact, theRegister have found this to be the case, using the same machine.

You mean from that guy who rabbits on how great Linux is, oh btw it does suck for games because it can only run a few and even then you have to stick them through WINE.

I am quite content with playing the games that it offers, well, apart from UT, which i refuse to play... For obvious reasons(it's p00) ;)

The only game needed to be run through wine is HL, and what's the issue anyway? Wine is just an open sourced version of the Windows APIs. yes, they aren't as good as the real Windows APIs, but there not half bad ;)

I have recently learned that UT KICKS FUCKING ARSE. I suspect Q3 is a lot of fun too, but I wouldn't know.

Anyway... Since all the games on the shelves have a very handy "Designed for Windows" sticker on the box I think its fair to say that your gonna have more success running a wider variety of games on Windows than you will on Linux. Its so obvious; we all know it and really doesn't need to be said, but there you go.

If Albert is happy with just his Quake-based games then good on the lad. Personally I like knowing that any game I fancy buying will run on my OS.

QW, Q2, Q3, Wolfy, UT - Windows with Linux binaries.
I beleave there are some windows games released as Linux versions, allthpough i'm not totally sure. Tribes2 is one of these i know, but there are more.
HL, Sims - Games under wine. Any game that uses OpenGL has a good chance of working with wine(wolfenstein worked ok under wine). WineX of transgaming has far better direct3d coding, so will play games like the Sims, and possably other D3d games.
So, i have found 8games off the top of my head from windows... If you consider some Linux games such as Freeciv(popular civ clone), then you can add to that. Linux isn't great as a gaming platform, but games which are ported tio the system generally run as well, or better than on Windows. Hence it isn't the platform which is poor for games, simply the lack of games available for it.
