As I'm sure none of you remember 2 years ago I applied to join the police force in Lincolnshire and got as far as the role play and apptitude tests failing only by 1% at Lincolnshires 10% higher than every other county requirements.
It's now 2 years later and the first recruitment drive in that amount of time (unless I missed one) started at 8.30am yesterday. All day I tried to call to get an application form but the number was busy. I finally got through about 4pm to be told that all the application forms had been allocated. Apparantly there were only 1500, of which only 80 will get through.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but Lincolnshire is the second biggest county in England. And although is mostly rural has some of the worse roads in the country, and has been hit the hardest by the eastern european exodus, most of which quite frankly don't understand the concept of law and order. So after 2 years surely they need more than 80 officers to fill in the gaps left by retirement, transfers, death, etc over such a large area.

wtf is this country coming to?

I'd also like to mention that you have to wait for a recruitment drive to apply to be a police officer. However the web site does point out that as they are under represented by ethnic minorities and homosexuals so they can request and application pretty much anytime. Seriously what does that suggest, "you may not make the grade as a police officer but because you like the cock welcome aboard!"

No I am not pretending to be gay.

Ironic being the Police involved, but under any other circumstances that would be classed as discriminatory in itself.

Damn you Tom! Damn you to hell! :flame:

I also forgot to mention, you don't tend to see many police officers in Lincolnshire anymore, you do tend to see lots and lots of PCSOs though. In fact I'd say you see more of them that you do actually see proper officers.

Here is your answer - I see the PCSOs round our way now have their own patrol cars - sweet :p

I work with the police a lot. From what I have been told, the easiest way to get in nowadays is by becoming a CDO (Command Duty Officer) first. CDO's are civillians, but there is a training program run by most police forces which a CDO can apply for after two years service. I can't remember what it is called, but that is how a lot of people get in now. I know three CDO's who I know are doing this course at the moment. It's still not a walk in the park though apparently.

Going through the standard recruitment process is a nightmare apparently, and the odds of you getting in are slim. A friend of mine with three years military service and good reasonable A-Levels failed three time to get into Greater Manchester Police. He got to the final rounds of interview, but no further.

You cannot possibly comment on the numbers they are hiring being too low when you don't have any figures for how many have as you say "retirement, transfers, death, etc"

What if they only, for example, lost 30 staff last year? Then they're hiring 50 more than last time.

Granted, this probably isn't the case but you appear to be ranting out of;
a) a lack of knowledge on the subject and
b) a casually racist attitude.
Given those couple of points, you should fit in well with some police forces ;)

A serving Hampshire traffic fella told me that most of the specials they have are doing it as a route in. That's specials, NOT PCSO's, and that the traditional way into a force now is still join the MET, then after 5 years or so apply to transfer to the force of your choice.

That's probably because your grades don't count for much, the application form is asking mostly for your experiences. Some of the questions you literally cannot answer unless you've experienced something. For example, describe a time you overcame racism/discrimination and how it made you feel.
Luckily for me I've worked with the public since 1999 and have 3 and a half years military service under my belt so I could just about answer all the questions without having to make something up.

My dad had no problem joining the police back in the day without any qualifications etc. But he did have a good 10 years of prison service under his belt, working in some of the tougher London prisons.

Its crazy reading this thread, a friend of mine is having the same problem but joining either Midlands/London or Oxford (i think, he rambled on a bit) - he was advised to get experience via PCSO/Specials route... which also turned out to be a problem joining.

Good luck with it though, hope you get there eventually.

Sorry to say it mate but pretty much all forces have cut down recruitment massively, which is looking quite daunting giving i graduate this year and was hoping to jump ship from doing it for free and start getting paid..

I'm same boat as 00dave, I had the sheer audacity to be at work on the morning in question so I'm fucked too. But Lincolnshire police have missed out, in me, on the best thing to happen to community policing since ED-209, so it's their loss ultimately.

As for Wazz and his "you don't know how many officer's have left in 2 years" all I know is that on Xmas eve, with the pubs full of drunk pricks, there was a grand total of 4 officers on duty where I live.
I was chatting to one, 2 more were in a van somewhere and the 4th was hiding next to a radiator back in the station.

Sound enough to you? This the rule rather than the exception too.

And the "positive" discrimination thing really fucks me off too, all it says to most people is that you may be a twat, but if you're a minority twat you've got a chance of a job.
I also seriously doubt they will get even half of the 1500 application packs back, and more than a few will have pinched internally by the PCSO's anyway.

Going home and taking my ball with me :kissit:

Just walk in there looking and sounding like Gene Hunt. Tell them they're as much use as a spastic in a magnet factory.

You'll be straight in.

If you can find a force recruiting, take the a/c somewhere else and then ask to transfer the result to lincs. Alternative is to go the internal route - special or police staff (wouldn't bother with PCSO).

Well given you haven't stated anything to do with population size, town size, number of venues, people present etc. so there's no way of knowing if it's enough. Plus, you never know what other police are currently attending to at that time.

Wazz has a point though. You also don't know what their budget is, they may not be recruiting to fill all the vacancies created over the last two years.

Who'd have thought that being a rozzer was massively oversubscribed eh?

Maybe they'd better apply to the fire service instead, if they want a demanding dangerous job...

....oh, they're both a doddle? ;)

theyre only giving out 1500 forms?? thats ridiculous for a start.

but i have two friends who are police officers in london and as someone else has mentioned, becoming a PCSO/Special Constable is normally an easier route in
